Until we allow all athletes to go pro right out of high school amateurism is dead. Let all of them go get their contracts so they aren't forced into schools where they don't want to be and in most cases have no business being.
It's beneficial to both the fans and players as fans can cheer for kids who value the education and the chance to play for their dream school and players are free to sell their services above the table for fair market value instead of the shady backroom stuff we have now where they can be taken advantage of.
Problem is that it's horrible for the bloated athletic departments at all of the D1 schools. The quality of the product goes down and so would the money. Suddenly the sports programs that bring in nothing will start getting shut down or having their budgets slashed to nothing.
Many complain that athletes don't have a firm grip on reality and who pays them so maybe we should stop forcing this unrealistic system on them so they can.
