That was a failed experiment, jagr was a cancer at the time and needed to be dealt. He then installed a "5 year plan." And ever since the Montreal series this team has gone to shite. :( Leonsis only cares about the almighty dollar and putting people in seats. And he keeps the dumbass GM's around and doesn't have the balls to fire them. George McPhee needs to go.

Jagr was so terrible for the Caps that a trade for a bag of used jock straps would've been a good deal just to get his arse out of town and his contract off the books. Jagr almost single handedly destroyed the Caps franchise. He was beyond lousy.

The Caps have plenty of wings. Most are tweeners, but depth isn't a problem. If you have Ovie, Johannson, Ward, Brouwer, Hendricks, Chimera, Wolski, Fehr, Crabb, and Laich... wing depth shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't call that the best stable in the league, but that's a lot of wings, all capable of playing in the top 6 (ok, maybe not Crabb).

They have a lousy penalty kill, are taking WAY too many penalties even if they had a good one, are playing lousy defense, and also just playing listless hockey. But it's not a talent issue. There's talent up and down the roster. They just don't know who they are.

The Caps never should've listened to "experts" and dismantled firewagon hockey. This team is a Ferrari that stays in second gear. Just go back to skating and attacking. Let teams adjust to you. The NHL took a sigh of relief when the Caps went to a more defensive system.

You couldn't trade cap hit under that CBA. Leonsis paid some of the deal, but the Rangers took the full cap hit. And that's what mattered. It was a huge deal at the time.

Caps won't win in the playoffs with firewagon hockey though baloo...the real problem is Ovie's mind is still a million miles away back in the KHL...

Forgive me, they have wing depth..for the 3rd and 4th lines. They have a lack of wing talent. Ovechkin is the only wing worthy of being on the top 2 lines. Brouwer and Laich are fringe second liners. Finally get the second line center we've always needed but let Semin walk, brilliant.

They're likely on their way to the Stanley Cup if they don't run into Halak that year. It's evident now that they went extremely overboard in the style change.

And I call bullshite. Worked for the Oilers. This idea you can't play attacking hockey and win is absurd. The Canucks almost won the Cup playing near firewagon hockey. Instead of trying to win in a unique way, the Caps decided to lose in a traditional way to avoid criticism.

And they would've never even heard the complaints had they brought in a veteran talented dman like a Pronger, etc. GMGM had a shot to put this team in a GREAT position, but failed to do so. The year before the Montreal series, all they needed was someone to put Crosby on his arse anytime he came near the crease, but nope.

different time broseph...and even though the Oilers of today are fun to watch i don't see them going far in the playoffs till they unload one of the big three or four for a stud defence pair...look at Chicago for inspiration is what i say..

Yeah, I don't think anyone would've been opposed to signing a guy like Pronger. But with Ovie and Backstrom, the Caps just need a mucker to clean up the trash as the other wing. Whichis why Knuble was so perfect for this team. It's also why Wolski would work fine on the opposite wing.

The problem, until this game, has not rely been the offense. It's the special teams and the defense. When did Carlzner start to suck?

What exactly did they show last game against Winnipeg on offense? The fact they peppered a team sitting back playing their third game in four nights up 4-1 in the 3rd? The offense looks disjointed. None of our big guns are scoring. It's been the Wolski and Ward show. This team looks like complete shite.
