The most overused phrase is "upside."
Someone on the radio the other day said, "I'm not sure what Cam Newton's potential is, but he has tremendous upside." What's the damn difference??
I also hate how football commentators love to say "football" so much. Mark Schlereth will say "this football player is a great addition to this football team." Or "when I look at this football team, I see a heck of a football coach." Dude, we know what sport it is we are watching.

As in "high football IQ". I mean, it is their job, hopefully they are better at it than the average joe.
