SI Players poll says:
Joba Chamberlain, Yankees P 12%

Alex Rodriguez, Yankees 3B 5%

Gary Matthews Jr., Reds CF 5%

Nick Swisher, Yankees RF 4%

J.D. Drew, Red Sox RF 3%

Thoughts?

Yeah, I'm a fan of his, but he's played like shite this season.

ARod makes this list every time. Probably just jealousy.

A couple years ago he might have been where Joba is. He's still hanging around the list because of the titanic contract he received (disregarding arod) and obvious lack of numbers.

Seems like Jeter would be there before ARod though

J.D. Drew would have to be considered good to be overrated

Nawww I just think McCann is over-rated. Since the division has been getting all of these great pitchers, Halladay, Johnson, Santana, ect, his numbers have been steadily declining. Plus I have a better shot at throwing someone out at second then he does. The guy is batting .267 this year and can't throw anyone out and he's an allstar? Plus I hear hall of fame talk about him all of the time.

Yeah, Jeter was #1 atleast once. He's usually on it. When he was #1 in 08 everyone here agreed with it though.

He definitely shouldn't have been there this year.

That's not very smart.

I said the same thing, and it didnt go well for me in that thread. The consensus was he was about the 10th best SS in the league and JJ Hardy and Jhonny Peralta were better based on the fact that for one season they had a better OPS.

I think Jeter has a lot more respect from his peers than A-Rod does.

Have you browsed the stats from NL catchers? The only player with an argument against McCann is Olivo, really.

Glad he was for 2 reasons:
1) I'm a braves and a McCann fan
2) Game winning 2B

However, I can agree he is overrated.

But in his defense, if not him than who else??

There aren't really very many good hitting catchers in the NL or MLB for that matter this year. Mauer is probably the only one left that is a true allstar

You are right about the availability of catchers right now in the league but McCann strikes out 1 in every 5 abs, that is terrible.

Who rated him highly to begin with? Everyone knows the guy just got 'roided up one year in Texas and has sucked every other year.
