Most in Packers draft room didn't want Rodgers at 24th pick; no other teams called, either

In an interview on a recent podcast, former packers VP Andrew Brandt detailed the Packers 1st round draft room experience in 2005.
Apparently they were looking hard on defense, but all their 1st round grade guys were already taken.
When Rodgers came up, the offensive coaches had to beg front office to draft Rodgers.
The VP said he purposely waited the entire 12 minutes before his pick needed to be in , just in case any other team called wishing to trade and jump up to get Rodgers...literally no one called. If anyone's had called at all, the trade would have likely been made because the packers were so hesitant.
The clip is worth watching, but the podcast host is quite possibly the worst interviewer I have very seen. LINK
Best nugget though, actually wasn't packers related. Apparently Gruden told Rodgers to his face Tampa was drafting him in the top 5, then they proceeded to pick Cadillac Williams instead.

To think that the Saints would have had a hard time being relevant, even with Brees.

Team's were sour on Tedford QBs.
Rodgers changed immensely sitting on the bench in the Pros.
He was so mechanical in college, holding the ball high above his ear.

Part of Rodgers’ collapse was that very few teams were looking for a QB that year although they really should have.
The other part of it was likely that Jeff Tedford QBs had a really bad reputation at that point, as Joey Harrington and Akili Smith were two of his guys who completely shite the bed in the NFL.

I'm sure Gruden had a Chucky-doll shite eating grin on his face when he told Rodgers that.

The thing is Aaron Rodgers isnt really that good. He has been the main beneficiary of all the rule changes over the past decade or so, which have allowed limited talents like him to look better than they really are
He would be a servicable backup at best if he played in the 90s

What about Super Bowl legend Trent Dilfer?

Drafting QBs is cyclical. There weren’t a lot of first round QBs drafted in the 90’s. Only 16 QBs were drafted in the 1st rd in a span of 11 years from 1988-1998. No draft had more than 2 QBs taken in the first round during that span.
Then in the 6 years preceding the 2005 draft there were 18 QBs selected in the first round from ‘99-‘04. Teams were desperate for QBs and began reaching. There were a lot of busts and disappointments.
Teams either weren’t in need of a QB because so many QBs has been drafted recently, or they viewed picking a QB at the bottom of the 1st round a wasted pick because of the track record of busts.

Was Rogers the QB when California was #2 and he failed clock management in an aggravating last play loss?

Man, no kidding. That was very vexing. I felt bad for Brandt. He constantly interrupted and completed Brandt's sentences. He would jump off topic and ramble incessantly.
Oh yeah, he has an annoying voice as well.

I think Rodgers was the QB when they beat USC in triple OT. I think that was 03' if I'm not mistaken. That was probably the same year.
