So he played more to get more stats is what you are saying, in the conference that was not as good as the conference Jordan played in?

Looks like MJ had better stats when you break it down in per game.

Mike Tyson in his prime was unbelievable. I had no doubt at all in Tyson winning every fight. I don’t remember being so confident in anyone like I was with Mike.

Julio Cesar Chavez Roy Jones and Sweet Pea were all the same way, as was Mayweather. You knew they would win it was just a matter of the how.

3 to 6 sure does not seem like getting a title

Also they have more games in earlier rounds now, but hey forget stats facts and logic.

Tyson was a beast but overated. He fought tomato cans most of his time.

You may be right but there was nobody that was gonna come close to beating him at that time.

Physically dominant in hockey would be Ovechkin

Easiest answer for me would be Roy Jones Jr. It was insane how much physically superior he was to every opponent in the ring. Guy had the speed and reflexes of a lightweight while weighing 160, 170+.

I feel he's underrated a bit because of his resume and the Tarver fights, but IMO Roy's the most skilled boxer ever. He had everyone so overmatched during his prime that he could make you feel sorry for the pro's he was destroying.

Instead of Armstrong, the more I think about it, it is Indurain. He won the Giro and Tour in same year back to back and the Tour 4 in a row. That is way more dominant than anything Armstrong had/has done.

He also won the Dauphene, Paris-Nice, and World Championships.

Just off the top of my head. Skilled but not necessarily physically the best athletes I would go:
-Jordan
-Tiger Woods
-Federer
-Pedro Martinez and Greg Maddux
-Fedor Emelianko
-Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones Jr and Muhammad Ali
-(Can’t decide on a QB) Some had intangibles that surpassed their skills like Joe Montana. ***Not saying he wasn’t skilled but intangibles were off the chart
-Barry Sanders

I don’t know enough about the old ball players without much video like Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and others.

Physically dominant:
-Bo Jackson (Maybe Michael Vick or Calvin Johnson)
-Tyson and Roy Jones Jr
-(MMA) John Jones Jr
-Jim Brown
-Wilt, Shaq and Lebron. (Zion Williamson may get there)

Overall: Brian Scalabrine

Apples to oranges I know but imagine if other sports changed the dimensions of the playing field because 1 guy was just killing everyone.

The NCAA did outlaw dunking because of Kareem dominating people at UCLA.

I've always thought that was the GOAT for a single athlete prompting a rule change. He was literally dunking on so many people they outlawed dunking.

Gretzky was like prime Lebron James playing D2 college ball.

It was not fair. His records look like typos.

ETA:

I think part of being physically dominant is coordination and speed/balance combination. Gretzky looked like everyone else was lagged a second from real time because his decision making and coordination combined with his speed/quickness was so incredible.

He isn't Alex Ovechkin as far as physique goes, or Bobby Orr as far strength in shot, but his physical talents were insane.

I guess you could call it agility like this article does, is that a physical ability relevant to this thread? Agility seems important.

quote:

However, he had no peers when it came to skating agility.

Gretzky could shift and turn in an instant without losing speed or breaking stride. His ability to maneuver behind the net—from his office—gave him a dramatic advantage over his opponents

His ability to accelerate left many gifted players in the lurch and out of position.
