A deal sending New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs for Class A shortstop Gleyber Torres is close to completion, according to multiple sources familiar with the trade.

This is such a lopsided trade in favor of the Cubs. I'm all for it, but it will greatly diminish Rondón's role on my fantasy team...so I'm torn.

Lopsided in Cubs favor? We giving up one of the top prospects in baseball for 6 months of a guy that pitches 2-3 innings per week. Not complaining, or saying we shouldn't do it, but the yanks are getting their money's worth

I don't know how you can say this right now. We would be giving up our #1 prospect.

Now if he's a bust, and we re-sign Chapman, then you can say it's lopsided, but until then, this is a great trade for the Yankees.

I somewhat have an issue with all you Chicago fans saying this. I understand he's No. 1, but he wasn't awhile ago. Your team is full of youth and one of the only reasons he is No. 1 is because of all the graduates you've had from the farm.

It's okay to be somewhat skeptical on the trade, but don't act like you're getting trade raped for giving up a guy who is in Class-A ball and is in a positional log jam.

I know he isn't some scrub who was way down the list and just randomly ended up at No. 1, but in return you're getting arguably the best/most dominant closer in the game today. I'd say that isn't horrible.

8:32am: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that if the deal is completed, there will be “much more” than just Torres and another prospect in the deal.

8:19am: Jorge Soler will not be included in this trade, reports Jon Morosi of MLB.com (on Twitter). George A. King III of the New York Post reports that switch-hitting third baseman Jeimer Candelario could be in play, however.

I'm guessing that's contingent on if Chapman gets an extension?

It's not clear exactly what Rosenthal is saying though:

quote:

Source: #Yankees-#Cubs trade, if completed, is not simply a 2-for-1 - Torres and another prospect for Chapman. “Much more than that.”

Also

quote:

Asked if Adam Warren would head back to #Yankees, source said, “Maybe.”

I haven't read anything about an extension.... I know it was reported yesterday but then retracted.

He's 19, raw as shite, & still considered the #24 prospect in baseball. Just cause we have a plethora of talent, it doesn't mean Torres has any less potential. POTENTIAL.

Could be the next Big Papi with that short porch, all he would have to do is rake.

Read an article on Bleacher Nation that put Torres' valuation into perspective. If you have $20, it's actual worth is $20. You can buy $20 worth of stuff with that $20. But if you are poor and have $20, you are going to value that money WAY more than if you were Bill Gates (to directly steal their work, here...but you get the picture).

Gleyber Torres is the $20, and the Cubs can afford to give him to the Yankees because they have 645 other prospects that are really good.

Now, Cub fans would feel a lot better if one or all of two things happen: Chapman is open to an extension with the Cubs (making the deal MORE worthwhile in the long term) AND/OR if the Cubs win the World Series with Chapman.

I'd be ok passing on Warren he seems to have regressed with the Cubs. Maybe just being comfortable with the Yanks will have him bounce back though.
