Idk but Allen Craig needs to gtfo.

.239 and completely useless AB's like this one minutes ago

Trade him in the deal for Joyce, anything is better right now, meanwhile Matheny keeps letting Taveras sit on the bench without ever getting any real shot at this level. Beyond frustrating.

Only Carlos Martinez is a top 50 player. Gonzales and Piscotty are not. It's not like I said it would cost two top 50 players for him.

Has the Post-Dispatch hitched their wagon to getting Price?

I think you trade Traveras for him. You get a known quantity for someone who you think can play.

I'm interested to see what KC does. They're serious this year and need a arm just to solidify the pen.

Gonzalez was our #1 pick last year, and already made a few starts for us this year coming up from double A, like him a lot, won his last 3 at Triple A as well, lefty with a nasty change. Piscotty is whatever, small with no power. Grichuk has 21 HR in Memphis however, like him.

I thought I read Tavares in there somewhere.
But 1 top 50 - that's what I think too.

Some bullpen implosion tonight. Those are the best trade pieces to have - consistently overpaid for.

Taveras is the #1-#3 prospect in baseball depending on where you look.

That use to not be the case but ever since they started paying old closer money to middle inning relievers, trade compensation shot through the roof. I agree they make excellent trade chips.

Craig strikes out again, .237 and 2 hits in his last 38 AB's but still starts over Taveras.

Seriously just make Craig, Piscotty/Ramsey/Grichuk/Miller available in a trade and get the best SP you can get.

Call it a night.

I'd take Craig for Rios. I think a change of scenery would serve him well.

You're nuts, Craig has a .243/.313/.356 slash line since the 2013 AS break. He is awful. Rios is actually good.

Cards should get Detwiler if the Nats are still willing to deal.

He was on block or rumored earlier.

Then go all in for Price.

It's not about SMS Toad. He is a Lefty that can go into 3 roles

Start
Middle
Specialist

Plus he is from up there. I just think in a series he would be valuable.

I don't think he's started this year has he? I'd take him for a bullpen arm I suppose.

I'm not sure I know he was on DL

But if the BoB get Price they don't need a starter, so he can pen easy and make spot start when needed.

I like his contract and he has a strong track record. I think moving to the AL and playing a defined position every day will jump start him... at least that's what I'd hope. But feel free to throw in Miller too though if you don't think it's fair.

We just need Taveras in RF every game, finally gets to pinch hit and gets another hit.

Get Craig gone along with a prospect or two for a solid SP.

Lester scratched from his start today. Just a matter of who now.

The Rangers are willing to eat some of the remaining salary on Alex Rios‘ deal, but talks could still go down to the wire, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Rosenthal hears that interest from several Rios suitors — including the Indians, Giants, Reds and Royals — has waned of late.

The Cardinals have been strongly linked to starting pitching, and the club is making its final assessments in advance of the trade deadline, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It appears that St. Louis is aiming for a fairly impactful arm to slot into its rotation.

In addition to Cole Hamels, the club is at least doing background work on Cliff Lee and A.J. Burnett of the Phillies. (As Strauss’s colleague Derrick Goold recently reported, Philadelphia is watching the Cards’ Triple-A club.) Likewise, the Cards are performing diligence on Jon Lester of the Red Sox, Ian Kennedy of the Padres, Justin Masterson of the Indians, and David Price of the Rays — among others — according to Strauss. That does not necessarily mean that the club intends to make offers on any or all of these pitchers, of course, but at least seems to indicate the direction of GM John Mozeliak’s thinking.

If the Pirates make a deal for Lester, it will have to occur before his start tomorrow so he can take his next turn for Pittsburgh, reports MLB.com’s Tom Singer. The Bucs are not willing to part with prospects Tyler Glasnow, Nick Kingham, Jameson Taillon, Josh Bell, or Austin Meadows in a deal. But the team would consider dealing Alen Hanson or JaCoby Jones, and Singer says that outfielder Jose Tabata is a “wild card” in discussions, which could potentially expand to include Mike Carp or one of several Boston relievers.

Seems like the Pirates are just putting up an act that they want to compete if they're not willing to deal any of their top prospects. Nobody wants fudging Jose Tabata... and marketing him as a "wildcard" is a joke.
