Padres have a couple trade options with Hosmer, who seems likely to be dealt somewhere. The Mets are surely interested in Paddack with deGrom down for now. Hosmer would upgrade 1B defensively. In that trade scenario, if Alonso moves to DH, Cano role gets smaller. @TheAthletic

Padres are deep in trade talks with a couple teams involving Eric Hosmer — the Mets and Cubs believed among those teams. One scenario reported by @dennistlin has Hosmer and Chris Paddack being discussed in a trade scenario with the Mets for Dom Smith.

“Our ace is out for at least a month. Better trade a top prospect and take on a terrible contract so that we can add a guy with -.8 war last season” Mets gonna Mets

The real prize in that trade is Paddock. Hosmer is just a potential useful piece.

Paddock did regress a bit last year but I think he was dealing with some minor injuries.

I don't think Dominic Smith has lived up to his early hype either- If Mets can pull it off I think its a net win.

Yeah Hosmer isn't that good.

But the Muts can have him.

Depends on Paddack, dude had a great rookie season and has been injured since. Do you trust the Mets to unleash his potential?

Hosmer is still fine with the glove and maybe an upgrade over Pete in the field. However he has nothing left offensively so he doesn't help at all.

Deal that’s on table has Eric Hosmer, Chris Paddack, Emilio Pagan and $25M going to Mets for Dom Smith. Mets are mulling. @Joelsherman1 @Ken_Rosenthal @ByMcCullough and @dennistlin on top of it

Yeah that sucks.

Thankfully we have depth down there.

Outfielder Justin Upton has been designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels, sources tell ESPN. The Angels will owe him $28 million for this season, the final one in a five-year deal. Unlikely anyone deals for Upton at that price, so likelihood is he'll be a free agent.

Heh, I like how you won't acknowledge the Guardians exist either. They'll always be the Indians to me too.

No one is better at wasting money like the Angels. And they still don't have any pitching...again.

They've signed a few players and invested heavily in the bullpen
