Very easily. You are looking at a number of pitchers that are straight dominating this year, you have multiple MVPs candidates in Trout and Harper. Just a nasty class

If he's just an average hitter he'll be more valuable than a .800 OPS first baseman.
Rizzo is OPSing .826 at 23 y/o.

I think it's safe to assume he won't be an .750-.800 OPS player his whole career.

I don't think he's close to peeking. His ceiling just isn't as high as Simmons.

He's always has a pretty large platoon split in the minors, especially last year. I don't know his numbers for this year but it isn't a big enough sample size to convince me can be elite.

I think the Cubs made a great decision giving him the contract, I just don't think he'll be more valuable than Simmons

Smaller sample size for my argument here, but so far this year he's better against LHP than RHP.

if simmons is the best defender out there...then hasn't he reached his cealing?

I think you were right when you said a great defensive and average hitting short stop is better than a .750 OPS first baseman. I don't think that describes rizzo but i do think it describes simmons.

I didn't realize that. Again I can't look it up right now but I think he had around an 80 point difference last year in average and 200 points in OPS...but at just 22 years old of course

Right...when he had a long looping swing. That isn't the swing he has now. You can point to those numbers but be fair and at least acknowledge the change.

Afterall that's what got him demoted ot the minors with the pads in the first place.

and he's only had maybe 30 fewer PAs this year against lefites than he did last year. So i think if youw ant to use 2012, you have to use 2013 too.

Simmons hasn't hit yet. If he and Rizzo both hit to their potential...Simmons above average-good, Rizzo great-elite...then I'd personally rather have the elite defender who is a good base runner than the first baseman.

I know I'm biased or whatever, but that's my opinion

Simmons can't improve at the plate because he plays great defense?

his defense isn't just "great" though.

He's posting all-timer type metrics.

I could go either way, but if Simmons is the greatest defensive SS in baseball history at some point you have to consider that may be more valuable than a slugging 1B.

Okay he changed his swing. He didn't hit in the first three weeks and hasn't hit recently either.

He hasn't done much this year to change my opinion of what he'll end up as...I think he'll be good just not elite

Just for giggles...rizzo has 3 more SB than simmons this year.

Freddie doesn't run, i know...but like i said...for giggles.

Yes. And it should be noted that his chances against LHP are less than RHP, but still...he's hung in there against lefties this year, and all I'm saying is that it could be taken as a sign of an adjustment and growth in his approach. Emphasize "could be".

And i think simmons will be average...not good.

Full circle.

You're wasting your breath

Most unbiased parties are taking Rizzo

Derek Jeter is one of the worst defensive SS and has been an integral party of numerous championships amirite?
