Tony K was so good. When he and Costas called The Sandberg game in 1984, that was epic. Kubek had that tone of voice that was perfect for a baseball color guy.

The Kubek Sounds of Baseball show that MLB Network did a few years ago was outstanding. Kubek was so good at picking out things and offering more on replays than just a regurgitation of the obvious.

And working with Scully, Garagiola was a good analyst. He wasn’t the best at play by play but he had almost the same eye for the little things that Kubek did.

Kubek was a student of the game. Nobody was ever like him in the booth.

From a recent article:

Key Points
NBC will host Sunday Night Baseball, Wild Card Series, and other MLB events starting 2026.

ESPN gains MLB.tv control, exclusive 30-game package, and continues Little League World Series coverage.

Netflix adds World Baseball Classic, Opening Night, Home Run Derby, and Field of Dreams game.

FOX will also continue airing the All-Star Game and select regular season games, mostly on Saturdays.

Regular season games will also continue to air on TBS on Tuesday nights, and TBS will remain the home of League Championship Series and Division Series.

The Apple TV “Friday Night Baseball” series will also continue while MLB Network programming does not figure to change, either.

All this come as MLB seems to be ascending again in terms of popularity.

The 2025 World Series drew more than 50 million viewers in the United States, Canada and Japan, and MLB says the Dodgers’ dramatic win over the Blue Jays was the most-viewed in 33 years.

An average of 6.33 million Americans watched the postseason games, making it the most-watched in eight years, and MLB says viewership increased across all of its national television partners, locally on regional sports networks and streaming on MLB.TV.

The 94 strike caused him to walk away from the game for good.

Looking back, can’t say that I blame him.

Not Hot Take.

Al Michaels was a better baseball announcer than he was a football announcer.... And he's the best football play by play guy of the last 30 yrs....
