there are probably more than a few, but the ones that stick out to me are DiMaggio's hit streak(56) and Hershiser's scoreless inning streak (60)

I would say
1. Ruth
2a. Mays 2b. Aaron
3. Gehrig
4. Williams
Aaron over Mays IMO. If you look at EVERYTHING Aaron was better than Ruth. Not by much though. Gerhig and Williams are right there. Cobb as well.

Herheiser's scoreless innings streak will be quite the feat if broken

Very tough. Pitchers are pussies now a days and I just don't think that one is close to being broken. 5 INNINGS MY arse!!!

I put Mays at 2a because I think he was a better all around player (ie. base runner, defensive player). If Aaron is put over Mays, it would be because of consistency more than anything else. He played at a high level longer than anyone.

What difference does that make, Herisher didn't throw all 60 innings the same night.

No
Ruth - .342 AVG, .474 OBP (5 years over .500), .690 SLG (best all time, 9 years over .700), 1.164 OPS (best all time, 14 years over 1.000). 94 career wins and a 2.28 ERA.
Aaron - .305 AVG, .374 OBP (highest was .410), .555 SLG (.669 was his highest), .928 OPS (5 years over 1.000). 3 Gold gloves
Not even fricking close

REALLY? OK so a PICHER is throwing a shutout NOWdays. He is more likely to get pulled in the 7th to save his frickING ARM. THAT = PUSSYBALLPLAYER!!!

I think what gives Ruth the nod at number 1 more than anything is that fact that he was also a very dominant pitcher.

I think Babe is easily superior, too, but Aaron undoubtedly faced better pitching. And those dudes were up there hacking, so OBP out of context is kind of an unfair measure imho.

Ruth was the better pitcher

The one thing that is so hard to argue is that BABE was SOOOO much better than EVERYONE in that generation. You can't say that about anyone else but COBB.

If Moyer pitched till he was 80 he might get close.

Great point, PJ. And I think that's why he has to be considered the GOAT. He's got numbers plus dominance that no one else can come close to matching.

Completely agree.
He was hittnig 60 HRs when no one else was even hitting 30 or something crazy like that.
And didn't he hit more HRs than every TEAM? Or most teams or something?
Stats have to put into context of when guys played, IMO. And when you do that, there is virtually no question that Ruth is the GOAT.

And I completely agree with that. lol
However, I will take this opportunity to repeat what I've said on here several times before. From 2001 to 2004, every time Barry Bonds stepped up to the plate he was the greatest offensive player who ever lived.

I completely agree. People get blinded by the steroids issue... And granted, I think the entire deal sucks.
But I still think that Bonds is one of the top 3 pure hitters to ever play the game.
