Finally a hitting catcher. Pumped.

Will be interesting to see how much he catches and how much he plays other positions/DH. His defensive and game calling skills regressed so badly in Chicago he ended up DH'ing more than catching last year.

And despite that, he still hit 3.9 WAR. Maldonado hit .186 for the Astericks. Contreras would have been a big upgrade over him and Vasquez.

I don't question there isn't another owner that wants to win as badly as Cohen.

Sounds like Red Sox and Bogaerts are close to working something out.

He was worth .3 WAR. Contreras still would have been an upgrade.

You're not wrong, but it also was proven unnecessary.

When is Bauer's hearing? Is there any chance he pitches for the Dodgers next year?

It has been ongoing. Likely decision in late December or early January.

Seems unlikely even if his suspension is overturned.

Contreras' 132 wRC+ 2nd in baseball to only Rutschman's 133 last year.

The #RedSox increased their offer for Xander Bogaerts. The talks have intensified. Looks like they could come to an agreement.

Just repeating what Dusty said Re: Contreras.

Look I loved the guy - he didn't hit all that well the second half of last year, after having his best first half of the season ever - and he seemed to have lost interest in being a good defensive catcher, like I said...maybe the Cards can get him to re-commit to defensive catching again. Or DH and play him at other positions more.

Supposed to be late December

Zero. The Dodgers' brass haven't commented on that publicly, but the team's beat writers say that if Bauer is reinstaated the Dodgers will cut him and eat the final year of his contract.

Flubs fans keep dogging him when he was behind the plate. Yet, he's put up positive dWAR every year of his career.

Salty grapes. They didn't want him on the Cardinals, social media is pretty great today.

It's one of the biggest pure upgrades of the offseason. Yadi's wRC+ was 51 last year lmao.

He had 1.8 dWAR as recently as 2021.

Cubs, Flubs, or Scrubs. It's all the same to me.

I watched him almost every game last year and I can tell you he was terrible. But the thing that WAR cannot measure is game calling skills and confidence the pitcher has in you...and I think the trade deadline buzz was he was not good at that and it cost him getting moved then.

And his WAR as a catcher while it indicates he's better than most at his position at hitting which we already knew, he played DH more than catcher last year - you know what his WAR was as DH? I do.
