I say they should remove the mound and just pitch from 2nd base.

The US has nearly 25% more people today than 1998 and added MLB teams, yet dropped total attendance is happening:

2000. US had 25% more people than today, and still has lower attendance despite 25% more people. Doesn't even include the ratings drop.

Wait, so you want the games to take even longer? Hasn’t that been an issue?

I guess you didn’t read the link.

Major League Baseball’s national television partners enjoyed a successful season with increases in television viewership and younger fans. MLB’s national television partners registered double digit growth in the Adult 18-34 category including ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball (+12%), FS1 (+24%) and MLB Network (+36%). In addition, FOX registered a +9% increase in the 18-34 demo.

Yes, this is compared to the prior year (2024 or 2023) and is the 18-34 age group it seems based on that. I'm looking at total viewership past 30 years for all age groups for world series numbers.

I'm trying to find regular season viewership data for all age groups over a multi decade period but harder to find that than world series viewer data.

I think they need to widen the strike zones. A lot of pitchers from back in the day would not have been as good as they were with the strike zone today.

With the current strike zone we don’t have pitchers that can paint the corners like the old days. Those pitchers usually didn’t throw as fast either. These days the zone is so small that you have to throw it as hard as you can past the batter.

A wider strike zone will force batters to swing more to which will help pitchers not throw as many pitches. Just what I think.

Keep the same distance and drop the mound height.

Regardless, I don't think the jump from 2024 to 2025 viewership is sustainable with these statistics. It's not the same game I remember 20 years ago and less entertaining.
