Among the details in MLBPA’s new proposal, sources tell ESPN:

- 70-game season from July 19-Sept. 30
- $50M in playoff bonuses
- 50/50 split of new postseason TV revenues in 2021
- Forgiveness of salary advance for Tier I-III players
- Universal DH
- Mutual waiver of grievance
from passan. bet they split the difference and get to 65 games, a small reduction in playoff bonuses, somewhere around 20 to 30% of postseason revenue, and then the dh and waiver and some amount of forgiveness on the advance

I see this being a potential sticking point for the owners.

theres no way the accept a full split. but they will most likely have to give some for the players to waive their right to file a grievance

You must have just listened to his interview on ESPN radio. He also said he would not he surprised if it is declined again and we are at a stalemate.

Same, but money talks and it was inevitable. I know some people didn't like the wild card game but I thought it was the perfect playoff format. It was the only league left where you had to win your division to assure your spot in the first round of the playoffs and the wild card games were great theater.

I hope they at least stop at 7 like NFL/MLS so there's at least an incentive to go after the best record in the league. Should do away with the divisions and move to a balanced schedule if best league record is the only real prize.

It won't be. Manfred can force a 50 game season. What I found interesting on the Passan interview. Said he can't validate these numbers. It takes 25 MM per day to run a full slate of games. Owners claim with the latest proposal, they would have been running 1.5MM/day in the red. Overall take was everyone was butthurt and refused to bend. Players main rub is the grievance. It is a cluster.

If Manfred mandates 50 then the players opt out, this when and where shite is for the birds. A lot of big players who have been paid will not play. The season is lost.

Crickets are alright, but I prefer worms as bait.

One thing that “the purists” are gonna hate:

The owners have proposed being able to sell commercial advertisements on uniforms for 2020 and 2021.

Again, it’s in the proposal, which as many have reported is not a done deal.

MLB owners are so upset by the players’ counterproposal — which is said for about $300M more — that no response is expected to be immediate. Time is obviously getting short so hopefully it’s not too long, of course.

This would be a good year to forego interleague play.

Every year is a good year to forego interleague play. But you have to have interleague play every set of series or you have two teams sitting around for 3 or 4 days doing nothing. That’s the result of leagues with an odd number of teams.

Moving the Astros was moronic. MLB did just fine from 1977 to 1992 and 1998 to 2012.

Wish they would go to 3 divisions of 10 like they discussed for this season. Yanks-Red Sox World Series would be epic.

I would love to see:

Expand to 32 teams (Nashville and Charlotte)

Reduce the minor league system to just AA and AAA

The NCAA needs to expand scholarships.

For something like this to happen, there would need to be a really strong independent baseball structure in the US, and that's really difficult to achieve.

I do think that since MLB is trimming MILB, the relationship to Indy ball should change. In essence, since MLB is outsourcing some of their development to Indy Ball and College/JUCO, there should be a posting fee attached to any Indy Ball signing to affiliated ball. This would help subsidize the Indy Ball clubs to help make the model a little more financially viable.

Subsidize is probably the wrong word, since they would just be getting compensated for their work in finding and developing a talent to the point that an MLB team would want to sign them.
