It's always easy to tell in these thread who didn't think sports even existed before 2000.

It's also always easy to see who in these threads allow nostalgia to overrule good sense.

This is the right answer. You just can not compare players from different eras. The argument ends there.

LeBron is the best player I've ever seen because i'm 29 (I also have the same bday as LeBron )

For people slightly older than me, MJ was the greatest they had ever seen and nothing will change that. Magic, Bird, Wilt, before them, etc. etc etc.

Well, Mike when you are the GOAT and not some little insecure bitch like a certain other person you don’t have to say it.

Nostalgia sounds nice, but facts are facts. Let's not forget that.

Fact is LeBron is a better player than Jordan.

And I say that as a fan of neither player (actually I've rooted against LeBron's team in every Finals he's been in).

James plays in a post-Jordan league. He had the benefit of growing up with a crop of players who idolized the man. Jordan was the first mover. His legacy will always be bigger. But only a fool would take prime Jordan over prime James in the NBA in either era, were both in a vacuum.

And what are the facts oh wise one? 5 MVP’s? 6 Finals MVP’s? 6 rings? 30.1 PPG? Shall, I go on with the facts?

TBird, you are normally one of my favorite posters because you speak eloquently and thoughtfully.

But this is just nonsense:

Best player ever was Bill Russell - 11 championships in 13 years 22.5 rebounds a game....different era, but he was a force back during the Celtics glory days. Any man that could shut down Wilt Chamberlin is a MAN

MJ's subtle trolls on Bron is fantastic.

Call me Fool Woods then. I watched both guys a bunch. Lebron has more physical gifts. Jordan was the better player and leader. Worked harder. Said the right things. It was obvious that you were going to have to kill MJ before he would give up...you can’t say the same about Lebron.

Why?

Understand I'm not maligning Jordan by saying James is better. I'm saying MJ's initial transcendence is the reason James is better. MJ was revolutionary. Now what made MJ revolutionary is emulated by every basketball player worth their salt--a generation of players who grew up watching him and studying what made MJ great. My peers.

I'm not talking legacy or off-court relevance. I'm purely talking basketball. Unless it's a Spur, that's usually all I care about. The tale of the tape favors James. The style of play favors James. The caliber of opponent favors James. Looking at him objectively, he'd be dominant in either era. Jordan in today's era would be VERY good. Elite. In the MVP convo many years. But not better than James, IMO.

As did I.

Agree with the first sentence. Not the second. Look at the caliber and quality of defense and athlete James faces compared to Jordan. Look at the type of Finals opponents both have faced. Jordan was ON the greatest regular season team of all time--LeBron had to FACE that team. And that's just one example.

I always say this, but it bears repeating: MJ on James' Finals teams almost certainly loses to the '13 Spurs and the '16 Warriors. Only Finals that he MIGHT have prevailed in where James didn't is the '11 Finals (and that assumes that the Bulls can handle Dirk and a ridiculously gelled Mavs squad that year).

They weren't even allowed to play zone defense in jordan's era! lololol

LeBron would literally score every possession if they couldn't put 4 players on his side of the floor
