True, I'm not a big fan of when people try to force their beliefs on others, and that goes for both sides of any issue.

So according to media this came out at senior bowl and he decided to address it now rather than wait for someone to "leak" it

Not the legal definition. DOMA was struck down recently.

Pretty smart. If he didnt do this his stock would probably be dropping instead due to "poor combine interviews" or another excuse

I'm already tired of this story

Plus endorsement opportunities. I'd love to be Sams agent. In this era of targeted marketing dude should make a killing.

he will end up in Seattle or San Fran...both teams are attention w*****

Depending on how Sam is treated could lead to other players coming out as well

Or the Jets, for the same reason.

I disagree. Rumor was out there, so this was a tactical move.
Risk draft stock dropping because of gay rumors, or come out, and get to use the homophobe card during negotiations, and against any team that passes him up beyond his projected selection.
I didn't read all 10 pages, so if someone else already said this, excuse my redundancy.
You're right, it was a tactical move. This article explains the whole thing. It was a completely managed media event. LINK
He was going to wait a couple more weeks but it was becoming common knowledge and was literally the first thing scouts asked about when talking to his agent. They decided to stay ahead of things and come out early. They even considered whether or not they could steal headline space from the Olympics.

Not a bad deal ending up on either of arguably the best organizations in league.

Is that not against the law?
I know my company couldn't ask a potential employee's sexual orientation.
Just curious. Also, I think it helps he's a very good football player. He will be treated fine IMO and will get insane endorsements for targeted marketing.

Well they didnt ask him i guess

In Louisiana you can ask about sexual orientation all day long.

I wonder how many agents immediately called their players to remind them to stfu on twitter as soon as they heard this. I wonder why the kid didn't wait until he was drafted. Honestly props to him for letting everyone know exactly who he is and what they would be getting.

A GM can ask if a potential draftee's mom is a hooker.

Yes, it is. Similar to it being against the law to ask a potential hire if she is pregnant. They may be getting around it by asking whether the player has a girlfriend instead of outright asking if he is gay.
