Mansfield is turning MLB into a regional sport

Pretty sure it's already there. People watch the heck out of their team, but I don't think the national interest is there for people to consistently watch NOT their team.

ETA: You could certainly make a big argument that ESPN helped push it there by not showing any games during the week and completely disowning Baseball Tonight. They are clearly catering to a specific demographic.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t watch baseball. Basketball on the otherhand, only know a couple people who keep up with it.

MLB Network had two games in the afternoon and there were plenty of evening games on tv if you get MLB.tv or extra innings.

I think a lot of it has to do with individual teams having contracts with regional cable companies for broadcasting games.

Yep, and the only way to see all the games is to get the MLB package. But you aren't going to get that unless you really like MLB. So there is no real way for them to get new casual fans.

I mean that may say something more about you than what the National numbers indicate lol.

I have to agree; Mansfield is turning MLB into a regional sport like the NHL.

Baseball has been a regional sport for 20 years or more now and that's not going to change IMHO, no matter what Manfred does, and that's o.k. for most teams. I get the MLB package to follow my team and as noted listen to podcasts for content about my team and that works fine for me.

4th of July for the MLB

I think about this every year when I see the hot dog eating contest replayed for the 4th time.

Not having a triple header, even on ESPN 2 or FS1, is complete incompetence by MLB.
