4 laps and 4 beers. It was a virtual race this year with each athlete running at a local track.
Alison Morgan (USA) went 6:16.5 to set a new world record. She was chugging beers in about 13 seconds each.
Chris Robertson (USA) went 4:38.7 just missing the world record. he was chugging beers in about 6 seconds.

Women's race starts at the 10 minute mark, Men's at 23:30 minute mark.

I’ve done this a few times with the Hashers in NOLA. It usually ends up a little messy.

We used to do it at Bernie Moore but it was 6 beers and 4 laps. There would be puke stains on the track for the next few days.

The first time I did one I wasn't a distance guy, but probably about 5 minute miler or a slightly better. So I though I could easily break 7 minutes.

Well I didn't break 7 minute, that last 800 wore me out. Later, I found out the guys who did really well actually trained for it, the beer part.

Oh, im heavily trained on the beer part. Unfortunately, that makes me a pack a day smoker. Which almost certainly detracts from the running part. Havent ran more than a hanful of times in the last 5 years or so. Still, id put the beers down in like 30 seconds total, so breaking 7 minutes seems reasonable. Not saying i can do under 5 or anything close to what that lunatic did. But im in pretty decent general shape and can drink the beers like water.

Don’t know about Chris but the WR holder has run 3:56-57 for the sober mile

The fastest guy in our race was around 8 minutes....again, this was 6 beers. He was one of the slower runners but could slam beers. He best sober mile was probably 4:20 or so. I went 15 minutes and puked a lot. I can't slam beers to save my soul.

He probably hasn't raced a sober mile since college since he is mainly a marathoner. But his collegiate PRs aren't great either. He has a 2:24 marathon PR which is pretty good.

4:38 minus 6 seconds a beer puts him at 4:14 at absolute worst. Then considering he is stopping and drinking on beer...gotta think that is 15 seconds worth of time.
