There would probably also be a lot of hype if, say, a black golfer came out of Stanford and started winning golf majors. Or if, just hypothetically, two black sisters from Compton dominated the world of tennis.
Afterall we never celebrate "the first black to ____"

Wow, I thought for sure that was a fake tweet by Whitlock. I'm a fan of his, but that's a fireable offense, especially coming a day or so after Jalen Rose's "white boy wasted" comment that he caught heat over.

I thought it was a fake tweet too

Yeah, while the tweet was hilarious (and probably dead on), that's a horrible thing for a "professional" journalist to say. It still makes me
when I read it though....

His supposed "apology", which wasn't really one, was ridiculous too. Can't believe he still has a job.

A team that is supposed to contend for a title in the biggest media market in the world starts the season 8-15, loses its two best players for a week, and everyone basically thinks they are done. Then a PG that almost got cut that week comes in and averages 27/8 in his first 5 career starts (as ESPN showed earlier this week, number that completely blow away Magic, Stockton, Isiah, etc in their first 5 career starts) to lead the team to 5 straight wins without their two allstars.
Yup shite like that happens all the time.

I'm sure David Stern loves it because it opens up a 1 billion person market.
Like someone mentioned yesterday, there was a guy who was drafted directly out of China who already did this.

Whitlock says a bunch of retarded stuff on Twitter. Fox Sports probably set it up for publicity anyway. Already got white people who hate and read Whitlock, black people who hate and read Whitlock, and now have asian people who hate and read Whitlock.

Yeah, saw a stat where Lin scored more points in his first 4 or 5 starts than any player EVER in tNBA. The top list included MJ, Shaq, Wilt, Kareem, etc.....and Lin was at the very top.

But he's gone now the NBA's got their attention again.

floyd is a racist plain and simple.

Of course his ethnicity is a story. However, if any other point guard burst onto the scene in New York of all places, for a franchise that has been down for so long, with such an illustrious history, it would still be a huge story. NY's on a 5 game winning streak? 6? Anyways, thats nuts for them. Especially considering they're without their two best players. I think it is a big story whether or not he is Asian. However, the Chinese angle is one that is of course going to get a lot of play as that is so easy an angle to use.
Is he the next Steve Nash? Heck no, I doubt he'll be able to keep up the torrid pace he has set. However, I think he'll be a decent player, and certainly a contributor in New York. Good for him, great story for the NBA, and a great moment of pride for the Asian community.

The NBA has maintained their attention. Yao wasn't the most popular NBA player in China by the end of his career.

dude is a moron at best. my dad likes his shite, but i can't stand it. he's not a very good writer, and his arguments are illogical and misguided at times.

Hey Floyd you forgot to mention Tiger Woods is half asian.
Posted on 2/13/12 at 11:20 pm to mattz1122
Kobe isn't going to play forever another guy of Asian descent will keep Asians interested.
Posted on 2/13/12 at 11:21 pm to tigerspin
All he's done is play his arse off under tough conditions in New York City, be cool with the media, and be what seems like a generally good guy and he still has people throwing shite his way.
As they say...

He's the first American-born player of Taiwanese or Chinese descent to play in the NBA.
That is pretty cool, especially since he is doing so well, but regardless of his race his story is really awesome and would be big news either way
