But he has an above .500 record and has made the playoffs at a 50% clip.

But he has no playoff wins in 15 years.

I get it. But every coin has two sides.

The following teams would take the results marvin lewis has had over the last 15 years

browns
bills
dolphins
texans
titans
chargers
raiders
lions
rams
jags

So a 1/3 of the league.

Some teams listed have a playoff win, but I would still rather the bengals results over theirs

Sure, but no team(ok maybe the Browns lol) would want to take the next 15 years if you guaranteed them the same regular season success with no playoff wins.

Of course not. But that isnt how it works.....

Fact is, his results have been better than a 1/3 of the league over his coaching career.

It's a hypothetical. Same as your scenario. There is no "that isn't how it works......"

He had regular season success with zero playoff wins in 15 years. It's time to go.

Two people i'm always shocked to find out that still have a job with their employer.

Joey Galloway & Marvin Lewis.

I understand them firing him. I do.

But I think chances are the next coach will have less overall success

It depends on how you define success. Look at how the Saints fans have latched onto that Super Bowl win. I think the Bengals would trade those "successful" seasons in a heartbeat for a SB win. And as it stands right now, Lewis isn't getting them there.

I will remember that night in New Orleans for the rest of my life. No one gives AF about 10 or 11 wins seasons if you get bounced in the first round. Fans, and I would assume ownership, want a shot at the crown.

In fairness, I don't think your way is how it works either.

So he's roughly a bottom 1/3 tier coach, maybe slightly better than that tier of teams you mentioned. Even that is STILL reason to be fired IMO.

I would disagree.

His win percentage has him in the 84th percentile in nfl history, and his playoff win total has him in the 75th percentile which I feel is about right for him.

I think the next coach would likely perform worse

Of fricking course they would

But they wouldnt trade 7/14 years being in the playoffs, for 2/14 years in the playoffs for a single wild card win......

He’s not wrong.

I hate this fan perception that it’s so and so’s job to prepare someone else for the game. It’s most certainly not, everyone is responsible to handle their own business.

Back in 08 when Aaron Rodgers was struggling, they found a time in New York where Brett Favre wasn’t sending pics of his wrinkly peen to reporters and asked him - “well why didn’t you prepare Rodgers better?”

And his responce was basically - “ get the hell out of here with that. That wasn’t my job”

Idk. You'd have to ask a Bengals fan. Considering their ongoing 27 year drought, I think they would think long and hard about it.

Trade 5 first round playoff losses for the excitement that goes with advancing in the playoffs.

ETA: But I'm speaking more about the future. The past is the past. Marvin Lewis isn't going to bring you to the promised land. They will be dropping a "successful" coach for someone who can hopefully get them a damn playoff win and a chance to win the SB.

And I agree. I would fire him too.

I am just pointing out I bet the next coach wont have as much success based on historical data

Just some numbers to throw out

Only 25% of nfl coaches have had a playoff win

Only 12% have more than 1 playoff win

Historical data????? You can throw that out the window in today's NFL... and it depends on who they bring in.... the Bengals are on a downward trend right now... losing Whitworrh was a huge blow to that offense.. and they are an aging team.... so that would factor into why the next coach would have less success....

Maybe he needs to figure out a way to motivate his players in the postseason.
