Are they playing ball right now? Is the portal open? Am I missing something?

I think what he is saying is that the portal shouldn't open until after the bowl games have been played. However, that won't work because they have to enroll before the spring semester begins.

I'd be willing to bet Auburn would take it.

ETA: NVM I see they gave it to La Tech

If the coach didn’t quit Marshall would have had plenty of players to play the game

We lost to Marshall in the SBC Champ game. Hell…they blew the doors off of us.

This sucks for the program, but this is the AD’s doing. Huff is a damn good coach, and the AD should be run out of town over this.

The fact that players even have that option without penalty is asinine. Hopefully they are locked in with contracts here in the near future. If they want to enter the transfer portal they have to buy out their contract just like the coaches do.

The coach doesn’t have a penalty either

An extreme exception to the rule. Nine times out of 10 coaches leave a school while in the middle of their contract, forcing the acquiring school to buy out the remainder of said contract. Sometimes you get a situation where the coach reaches the end of his contract, refuses to renew it, and gets hired away by another school.

However, that is beside the point and doesn't change my main point. If players want to be treated equally to their coaches they should be forced to sign contracts with the school and be made to buy out their contract if they decide to leave early.

Explain to me how this is a penalty for the coach. The new school pays the buyout and the coach almost certainly gets a raise.

They sign a yearly contract. It’s called a scholarship.

Just say you want different rules for players for no reason other than that’s the way you want it. It’s stupid, but at least you’re being honest

I really believe contracts are coming. Rich people don’t like giving away money only to have it be wasted. People like Gordon are going to insist on contracts and you can’t blame them. It will fix itself as far as the money is concerned. Wide open free agency (portal) without consequence is just ridiculous though

That’s not the coaches fault, that’s the result of decades of athletic departments getting raped agents

Yearly unrestricted free agency is asinine. No other sports association in the world does it. They need to claim them as employees of the school and have real contracts. This is all silly.
