Mets announcer had a nice call

"I don't care who you are, who you root for, or how badly you want the Mets to be in the postseason, that was phenomenal"

Man on ESPN they have the start, take me out to the ball game played by trumpet and the Marlins players behind the mound. Talk about making you tear up.

Ummmmmmm. You are an idiot sir.

Just because he died, you don't retire his number.

He didn't win a Cy Young, World Series, mvp. He's not a hall of famer. Just because he was killed in an accident doesn't mean he deserves his jersey retired

It's a good thing you don't get to decide that. He had a great impact on the Miami community and the cuban community. A legend at 24. If the Marlins want to retire his jersey, it's their choice.

Shut the frick up.

When you own a sports franchise you can make up your own rules and also be known as the biggest douchebag owner in said league.

He would have won the CY Young this year. His career projection surpassed that of Roger Clemens among others. He was on pace for a HoF career in his short career.

Y'all are giving him the Amy Winehouse treatment. Just because she died young, everyone started comparing her to Jimi Hendrix and Cobain. Even though she sucked.

I'm not saying this kid sucked but I wouldn't call him a "legend at 24" like another poster did

He had a 150 ERA+ over his first 4 years in the league, he was well on his way to legendary status. That is better than Server, Clemens, among others...

Yeah but we will never know how good he could've been. I'm not trying to be a dick but don't get caught up in the emotion of the moment.

He was "on pace" to have a great career but he didn't have a long great career like Clemens and others

In Marlins history he was already 4th in career WAR I believe. So he was already considered a great among their short history.

Plus like others said, the owner can decide what he wants to do and this would be only the second number retired after 42 for that team.
