Sevilla and Man City retired numbers of less successful players who died at a very young age.

with essentially a split race between Fernandez and a bunch of other pitchers (Scherzer, Hendricks, Lester, Bumgarner, Kershaw, etc.)
I dont see how you can say the above and then say

people can't accept that he had an amazing season/
He didnt have an "amazing season". A top 5 pitching talent in the league has a season that is top 5 in half the league and you are saying that is amazing? I dont see that. He had a damn good year. Dont think its a Cy Young season. Im talking baseball, nothing more.

The last time a qualifying pitcher had a K/9 over 12.5 was Randy Johnson in 2001.
Go find a list of pitchers with 180 IP, a sub 3 ERA, and a K/9 over 12. It will be an absolutely elite list.
Actually after a quick glance on baseball reference it looks like Randy Johnson and Pedro are the only other two pitchers to ever do it. But yeah not amazing

I'd be inclined to award it to either Lester or Hendricks, but I am totally partial as a Cubs fan. I honestly would not have a problem with them giving Fernandez a posthumous Cy Young award. It's not like he has a 7.35 ERA, I feel he would have been in the conversation anyway had he not passed away. He had a very good season.

Jesus Christ, I didn't know he had that great of a season.

He is the most valuable pitcher in baseball in 2016 according to Fangraphs WAR. (Syndergaard was close behind and may have equaled/passed him last night).

Basically everything but the ERA was in line. Only behind kershaw and syndergarrd in fip, only behind kershaw and syndergarrd in WAR, only behind kershaw in xfip, only behind kershaw and syndergarrd in fip-, highest k%, second only to kershaw in k-bb%
He's probably going to win the award now and it's not like he wasn't already one of the main competitors for it
