Here's a link to Cuban's twitter: LINK
Geez, Cuban needs to stop responding to the idiots.
But this was awesome
Bomani Jones tweeted this:
quote:
Bomani Jones
@bomani_jones
cuban did punk out with that “i’m scared of white guys with tattoos” point, too. not the same as a hooded sweatshirt, slugger.
Cuban responded:
quote:
Mark Cuban
@mcuban
. @bomani_jones what would make you cross the street in fear late at night? Anything?
Jones answered:
quote:
Bomani Jones
@bomani_jones
@mcuban not a person, no. as i said, if it’s like that, the person’s coming with you. i’m not that fast or in running shame. it’d be futile.
then he added:
quote:
Bomani Jones
@bomani_jones
@mcuban i’m not fearless. but i’m not crossing the street. past that, though: damn sure not cuz someone’s got a hoodie on.
@mcuban and i say that as someone who’s been robbed at gunpoint by someone in a hoodie.
to which someone posted this:
quote:
Clay
@helloiamclay
@bomani_jones Maybe cross the street next time?

Cuban has apologized to Travons Family about the Hoodie comment.
So the term hoodie is off limits?

So do we need to teach our young children that it doesn't matter if someone looks thug, (hoodies at night on the street, pants sagging around your peepee, tattoos from head to toe, hard stares from dumb looking people) but the only thing that matters is what's in a thugs heart. So go ahead and hang out in areas with these examples. You might just learn some tough love? frick bo**** Jones.
That wasn't Jones' point at all. Bomani jones simply asked why all I black guy has to do make Cuban afraid is wear a hoodie but a white guy has to get tats on his face.
At worse he simply acknowledged the bias that Cuban said we all had, but when Jones tried to apply to Cuban specifically using his own words Cuban went into defense mode and denied that is what he meant. Don't blame Cuban that much either considering the climate, but Cubans 2 comparisons were biased.

Did he really even have a point? Or was just blinded by the word hoodie?
I don't know what bomoni said. I just read his dumb arse tweets that were posted in this thread. About how he was robbed by a guy wearing hoodie once.
If you can't comprehend what Cuban meant by his words, I'm sorry.
If he would have said "if I see a black guy at night wearing a hoodie I cross the street, if I see a white guy at night wearing a hoodie on the other side, ill just walk in the middle of the street. Would that help you out?

Can you even see tatoos on a black mans face at night?
He just used two different examples off the top of his head that seemed comparable in his head at the time. Then gets jumped by the ratings drivin media. He shoulda just put both in a hoodie and then people like would not have a dumbass argument.

Anybody wearing a hoodie at night makes me worry, sorry.
Anyone with tats all over their both makes me work too.

Bomani Jones is acting like he can't for the life of him figure out why white people would be cautious of black people dressed a certain way.
And for the record, white criminals don't have a particular look. It could be anybody. So the only thing that would make white people cautious of other white people is something obvious like face tattoos. For a black guy, a hoodie and baggy pants might be enough for white people to think that person looks thuggish.
All it is is judging people based on how they look. Everybody does it.
You judge if somebody looks like a nerd. Or if they look like an athlete. Or whatever. If somebody is 6'10", you might think they play basketball.
Has nothing to do with racism.

Why can't anyone just say the truth. Hoodie or no hoodie, any semi-shady looking black guy is getting profiled until violent crime statistics change. If you're not profiling them then you're an idiot.

You're putting things in the hypo that weren't discussed by either Cuban or Jones. Don't attribute your fears, whether deserved or not, to these people who never mentioned them.
quote:

Yep but when Bomani tried to apply to it Cubans own words Cuban backed off that..
Wearing a hoodie isn't a trait of criminal behavior unless you are associating some other characteristic with it, Cuban choose to associate being black with that.
Having face tattoos isn't a 100% proof of criminal behavior or even intent to commit a future crime but it certainly is a external trait that is more closely attuned with criminals, of any race, than wearing a hoodie.

Really?! You're gonna sit there and tell me people make judgments on all those external characteristics of people from their clothes, tats, body composition, and height but we don't include race? We all see everything BUT color?
Everybody is a little bit racist, me you and even Mark Cuban but when called out on it he backed off it. That bias doesn't make Cuban a monster either but before we can fix the issue we have to acknowledge it is an issue.
