Lake Charles has Barbe and Monroe has West Monroe (and Neville) which will always draw students based on having advantages the other schools lack...the exact same advantages that give people in New Orleans and Baton Rouge the reasons why they send their kids to Rummel, Jesuit, BM, Curtis, Parkview, UHigh, Caholic, etc.

but they're still not comparable situations

look, i'm sorry that barbe is the shite, but that doesn't excuse the issues with the privates in SELA

And can somebody tell me what Caddo Parish's record with football was before Evangel became the trendy destination for high school players? Are Monroe football players just BETTER than Shreveport football players or was there something institutional with Caddo Parish schools that did not allow their football programs to reach their full potential?

West Monroe is its own little fiefdom and an outlier program when compared to ANY other program

if people in SLC gave half as much of a frick about HSFB as West Monroe i could only imagine what Barbe could do

i'll put this as my #2 suggestion behind a super class of fun and recruiting

i'd say Barbe gives 85% of the frick WM does... WM might have the best fans but it's not exclusive to them

ultimately if the non-select publics get their way we will have THREE state football playoffs.

wrap your head around this:
The privates leave the LHSAA but NONE of the select enrollment publics go with them because they are blocked by their respective school boards.

The regular publics get dominated by the public SOUTHLA Charters and Magnets.

The proposal is passed to have a public school non-select enrollment playoffs and a public school select enrollment playoffs.

everyone gets a trophy, hilarity ensues

maybe during the season, but the offseason workouts/weightlifting regimes aren't nearly the same

and that's only b/c this area isn't "All in" like WM is. i'm not criticizing WM. that's what makes them great

they're going to have to really re-do classes

like 1 "private" class and changing the rest to 4 public classes

It can be, and has been, illustrated to be exactly the same. Most private school players in Baton Rouge grow up playing for the Catholic schools, just like most Barbe kids grow up playing at S.J. Welsh or Queen of Heaven (which, by the way, is a Catholic school...shouldn't all those kids go to St. Louis or face having to sit out a year?). A smattering live in University and went to FK White.

But Barbe ALWAYS has a couple of kids that had to jump through hoops during junior high to make sure the kid gets into the Barbe zone, or find a loophole (M-M or some other exception) that allows him to attend Barbe. And Barbe ALWAYS has 1-2 kids who transfer in during their high school years. And there's ALWAYS 1-2 kids that are controversial or the result of some BS Calcasieu Parish schools rule (like Josh P being able to play for Barbe because his dad had a job near Barbe even though they lived in the heart of Sulphur, or something weird like that).

With rare exception, that's EXACTLY the make up of a typical roster of a private school power. For the majority of Curtis' run as a dominant power, for example, most of the players have been in the school since well before high school. They are system players, for the most part.

That may be changing some now -- I say that because of the shear talent on Curtis' roster -- but look back at Curtis' history producing college players. It's fairly modest.

WM is the closest thing to a ISD as you can get without being an ISD

a lot of these NORLA public schools are not versed in the white flight concept we see all over the state. so they dont understand the mindset of seeking a better school option for your kid. They dont have that option or they reject it if it is there (think St Mary's in Natch). So there will never be a "level" playing field as long as so many different types of schools are under the same umbrella.

it's not for 2 big issues

1. tuition
2. freedom. i could go to catholic as a Lake Charles kid with parents living her. BHS is still restricted in its area, EVEN if you want to include all of Lake Charles

Queen of Heaven (which, by the way, is a Catholic school...shouldn't all those kids go to St. Louis or face having to sit out a year?)

why would you frick with the soccer team like that?

can you tell me what geographical district you're using to describe this makeup?

they're not really the only one though... besides, they're hindered somewhat by there being other schools under the Ouachita school board

correct
just the demographics of Ouachita Parish and the way they cater to Shows is just like an ISD

I'd agree with this. If Barbe cared as much about football as it does about baseball, it would be West Monroe. Everything else it needs is in place.

Barbe once did care that much, but really, the rise of baseball in the early 90s put a damper on it. When Coach Shaver started allowing guys like Lawrence or Thibodaux to be baseball-first guys, it sort of de-emphasized Barbe's off-season program to one that sort of accommodated the players' other interests.

FWIW, I liked that decision and wish all programs encouraged participation in other sports and allowed players to participate on one sport while acknowledging that his emphasis and future is in another sport.

So schools like Christian Life and St John and False River will be in the same class as say...Rummel? Don't see that happening.

The current proposal is 5 non-select and 2 select divisions
