2 other 9-1 teams that missed the playoffs in 1983 led to "wild cards" being implemented in 1984.
It’s not because 9-1 teams missed the playoffs, it’s because the LHSAA wasnt making money from the byes when they take a percentage of the playoff gates.
Same reason they changed the divisions from the split recently.

It was said that Evangel hooked up the kids parents with good jobs. Not sure what jobs, but that was a common theme around town.

There was outcry for this for several years when many very good 9-1 teams missed the playoffs.
And it was divisions once the split started my man - and FWIW. Because of so many rematches playoff attendance per game is down. The split created divisions
You’re dead wrong on both counts

There's a few games that come to mind
2000 Byrd vs Evangel. Evangel just coming off their #1 team in USA by AP poll, national champions. Byrd is down by 3 or 4 like 48-45 with maybe a minute left in the game. Brandon Nightengale rushed for 380 yards and set a Byrd record that still stands today. He busts out a 70 yard run to win the game in the final minute against the National Champions, there isn't a single defender within 10 yards behind him as he crosses the 10 to score AND HE FUMBLES FOR NO REASON AND PROCEEDS TO KICK THE BALL THROUGH BACK OF ENDZONE WHEN HE WENT TO PICK IT UP. The Times article said that it effected him even 15 years later. A TD to win, and fumble inexplicably as you run into the end zone then kick it out, for Evangel to kneel it out to lose by 3. Brutal.
2011 Byrd vs Carencro. Carencro was so big that game. All their backs were 6'2 230 lbs. Byrd beat West Monroe that year who I think went undefeated and won the state championship the next game. That was brutal to watch. Their entire team was huge.
2008 Byrd vs Ouchita Playoffs. Not really a great game, but there was a RB for Ouchita that was just brutalizing our Defense. He never went down on 1st contact. Tore up our Defense. I wasn't aware or paid attention to recruiting sites back then, but I discovered that RB was a Top 50 recruit in the nation named Montrell Conners. He did look like a man amongst boys there
Another example of that was Jacob Cutrera when we played Acadiana in playoffs. I saw him put at least a couple guys on their back during kickoff coverage. Would not want to see that guy running full speed on kickoff coverage straight at me. Probably 6'4 230 lbs which is huge for a Linebacker today.

At least regular season games mattered then more than they do now…

I’m talking about when they changed the divisions again(4.4.4) a few years ago to eliminate a lot of byes in the bracket

I knew a guy who played for Neville in that 1972 game.

owl it wasn't just for 9-1 teams it was for the best teams that finished in multi way ties for district titles. 1978 owls might have been in the playoffs under the 1984 format - one of the two best teams in school history.

Similar to the Miracle on McNeese St when Barbe came from 28 points down in the 4th quarter to beat West Monroe to go to the dome. That offense was one of the most explosive in the history of HS football. 3 future NFL starters in that game.

Bonnabel traveled down the bayou in 77’ for state championship.
We had Tommy Wilcox and Mark Mistretta
They had Hebert and Orgeron
South Lafourche prevailed 21-20
Game ended with us inside the 10 yard line
There was some serious home cooking that night.
Coonasses we’re throwing shite at our bus when we left.

The Tara Trojans in the early 70s
I remember sitting in the gym at Tara and the student body singing "the night they drove old dixie down" at a pregame pep rally. Friday night was Tara vs Lee high rebels

If you finish in a multi way tie that means you lost lol… at least once

Debatable… 68 and 03 were better. 25 might be better.

Several teams equaled or bested the 14 points they scored on Rummel

how many d1 players did 03 have?

Bartholomew Nicholls
Collins Southeastern baseball pitcher
Boudreaux recruited by LSU
Dier recruited by ULM
Edwards Tennessee Tech baseball
Two legendary coaches on staff
Collins over 200 wins
Salt taking three teams to the Dome and winning it with EJ
Even Tucker was down the street helping lead Hannan to 0-10 that year. They sent us Sam Overton who was a big part of our defense

It also means that the two teams that made the playoffs from that district also lost, I'm not sure I follow your point.

I have worked three of the games listed in this thread.

A champ could have gone undefeated and then you have a multi-way tie for second…
