I don't like the roughing the passer. Why is he so protected over every other position on the field? Everyone else is allowed to get hit..but him.

I don't like how strictly they enforce it nowadays, but it's a smart rule. There is no other player who it is more beneficial to knock around if not take him out of the game altogether. You take away the rule, and roughing up the quarterback becomes an integral part of defensive strategy.
