Yep, he built a house here right after Katrina with the plan to retire here. Not sure what connection there is but apparently he had this planned even before the storm. He applied for the Ponchy job around 2002-2003 I think but their was a hang up over how many of his assistants they would hire. Mike Biamonte a former assistant of his took the job about 2007 I think. The following year Ponchy played Tierney's west jeff team in a spring game and week later he quit and became OC at Ponchy. A year after that Biamonte quit and Hank got the job he wanted a few years before. I just hope the idiot administration at PHS don't frick it up. I have serious doubts about this.

So technically Curtis DID play in the highest classification for 2 seasons. Ouachita and Ruston won state those 2 years.

I haven't met him personally, but thats what everyone tells me. Not really shocked Ponchatoula is a damn good place to live and good schools. I just hope they keep him happy and he will want to continue coaching even after he could retire. PHS could be a damn good program if someone like him took time to mold it. I doubt they could ever sniff a state championship, but you never know. That split option offense of his is unstoppable when they don't turn the ball over.

Heck even South Lafourche back when they won basketball title.. didn't like 4-5 kids move down there to go to school there?

and their parents got jobs....
Now I was going to just read and stay out the thread...

One kid came up from Grand Isle... if you ever been "down the bayou" then you would know it is pretty dumb that to get to GI you have to drive completely threw Lafourche. GI is in Jefferson Parish(ABUSURD) GI has a graduating class yearly of 5-10 kids... If you were a D1 prospect(like this kid was) wouldn't you wanna go to the big school? This player went to Houston to play...

Another kid was from Houma. He dropped Vandy to play for a team that was going to win something and better himself. And it worked...

And then there is Mo.. who went on to have a good career at GT and even played in the National title game against UCONN on 04. He was from Harahan. He had played with the Chouest boy in AAU and was befriended by the family. He has a shaky family background( if I remember) and came down the bayou to live with the Chouest because it was a better life. His father didn't seem to have a problem with it. Again this is all off of memory as I was a sophomore at SL at the time.

No parents kids were given jobs from what I remember.

You private school guys should tread lightly in pointing out the occasional time a public school does this.

I am not a basketball guy.... In fact I couldn't tell you any of last year's champs.... which is why I ended my quip with a QUESTION mark.....I was asking not telling....

and I have been down there many a time... but not for basketball..

I was there when they beat fourcade.

It's all good brother... I didn't even notice a question mark.. I seen South Lafourche and went into berzerker mode.

I am having a hard time understanding what this trouble(thread topic) is all about?

FWIW, I think private and public should have seprate titles... but both champs play after. a +1

Regular season everyone plays everyone but playoffs private is private and public is public. Recruiting every year HAS A ADVANTAGE FORSURE.

Anyone else think JC is tainted, not saying they don't deserve or aren't good... just tainted. Why not play the highest class?? just my thoughts.

Wait a second. Curtis will be playing football against De La Salle, Lusher and McMain? That's ridiculous! What are the scores of these games going to be?

Here's the second half of the district. 10-3A and 11-3A will be combined for football. McMain QB Omari Jones is licking his chops at facing Curtis and SCC. Last time McMain and Curtis were district foes was 2001. Sam Hill used to put a hurting on J.T. Curtis!

Nothing. 10-3A and 11-3A will be combined for football only. Same with two of the 2A districts I believe

You have no clue what you are talking about. I've worked with kids who have played football, basketball, basetball, volleyball, track, and softball at Curtis. They are good kids, but the reason they win is they OUTWORK everybody. Football practices for 5 hours on mondays and there isn't a single dull moment. Every team gets reps, nobody is idle, and they reinforce the team concept.

Now that being said, the school has a large vested interest in football, but JT wouldn't throw the other half of his school to the dogs when he can still play up to a competitive division for football and keep the other sports on a level field. I would love for you to tell me how Evangel did in 5a outside of football. I'm sure those kids felt great knowing they could never have the resources to compete in 5a but had to for football.

BTW, according to Ken Ramsey this is Evangel in 5A for non football:

No Playoffs:
2001 Girls Basketball
2001 Boys Basketball
2001 Girls Softball
2002 Girls Basketball
2002 Girls Softball
2003 Girls Basketball
2003 Boys Basketball
2003 Girls Softball
2004 Girls Basketball
2004 Boys Basketball
2004 Girls Softball
2005 Girls Basketball
2005 Boys Basketball
2005 Girls Softball

First Round:
2004 Baseball

Second Round:
2002 Boys Basketball
2002 Boys Baseball
2003 Boys Baseball
2005 Boys Baseball

Quarterfinals:
2001 Boys Baseball

Then amazingly when they played their proper division every single team made the playoffs that year. Thats the thing, unlike Evangel, JT cares that the rest of the school get to enjoy their athletic career. Sorry some of you guys get upset that school like Curtis could actually want to see all their programs succeed and the kids enjoy their time at a school. It seems like some of the posters here are the only ones who think that Curtis is a win at all costs school. Why don't you go to a practice. It may change your mind.

And that post was meant to show the people that say not moving to 5a for other sports is a stupid reason. I think that list shows that while small schools can compete in football when they put all their resources into it, it is almost impossible to be competitive in the other sports. And it can be argued that the stretch of time that Evangel was winning those 5A titles in the years I listed that they would have "had the athletes" to win or at least do better at those other sports, but that is not the way it works. It's not just as simple as plugging guys into other sports and boom, success.

well i'm sick of Curtis. whatever would put them in the top division (5a) or a private one, i'm all for it.

you could put them down with the LA School of the Deaf and they'd tote the trophy around like it was the 5a Champ.

i dont' mind if they won a State champ every few years. but every damn year? that's f'ing BS.

throw the Jesus school in with them. i've heard enough from them too. why sure it's fair that your school has a tractor trailer rig to haul the equipment around with E on the side of it. or how they were just practicing throwing when up 70 pts.

Please show me this 70 point victory, and on top of that, you are a sad man. You are sick of excellence? The Jesus school? Seriously, you have issues.

You're just mad because your school can't beat John Curtis. So instead of raising your level you'd rather them just leave.

Scared.

The guy is obviously a theophobe from a public school. Secretly he is more mad that his socialistic views for America have made the home environment a mess, causing public schools to lack the discipline to compete with most private schools despite better access to talent. Yes, I gathered that in 3 posts haha.

Agreed this is all a simple fix. Public schools should split. The private schools can do whatever they want after that.
