It's only for 9th grade and transfer students
quote:

The new athletic zones will be in effect for the 2019-2020 school year and will only impact 9th grade and transfer students for the upcoming school year and thereafter.

All 10th-11th grade student athletes that return to their school will be eligible regardless of their residence.

Additionally, 9th grade and transfer students will be eligible to play junior varsity sports if they reside outside of the approved athletic attendance zone.

because more than 25% of their schools enrollment is from outside their attendance zone.

Are you saying outside of Orleans Parish or just outside of their attendance zone?

Yes, those players that were already enrollee maintained their eligibility but any incoming freshman or transfer must sit one calendar year if they live outside of the attendance zone.

If more than 25% of your school attendance comes from outside the attendance zone then you must play in the select division- see Scotlandville, McKinley and Byrd.

The New Orleans area schools lie about their percentage thus allowing them to stay non-select

File me in the folder of people who missed the memo that C.E. Byrd competes in Div. I & not 5A.

That's always been the case. If you are from outside the attendance zone, you have to sit out a year - your freshman year or your first year after transfer.

However, there is some weird exception for the catholic schools that have 8th grade. So if you live in Metairie and attend 8th grade as Jesuit, you can play in 9th grade, etc

There’s no freshman playing varsity at Jesuit. Not in any sport.

I skeptical about this rule and how they enforce it. I know there are kids that live in outside of these zones and Jefferson Parish, St Benard, St Charles that go and play as Freshman at Lusher, Newman, DLS and Brother Martin.

That link reads like this is a new rule that’s why I asked.

Apparently it a Pre Katrina rule that just came back.

I wonder if let’s say a kid has been at Newman or Lusher since Kindergarten if they would still have to sit out.

Those other schools start at 8th grade so i guess that’s the loophole

Split hairs any....Boy...? Your general statement made it sound as if Jesuit had no freshman on their varsity roster.

How many freshman actually play or start on varsity at any school...? Not many...

and their Freshman team has only 24 players...?

When they lost to Rummel the other day, it looked like they had about 40....

They probably dress out their 8th graders with their freshman team. I don’t know that for sure.

But I know the frosh QB and I know he’s not playing varsity and he’s the best athlete out of all 24 of those freshman

Yes the sit out year can be below 9th thats one reason for the rise in 8th grade at catholic schools

Really? Is that a BR thing? Bc that link posted above says

It’s not a weird exception. Any student that has been enrolled at a school in excess of a calendar year, it completely eligible.
