I feel Washington '91 is underrated historically. Also, I'm not sure how their D was, but Penn St. '94 is the most balanced offensive machine I've seen in my life.

1992 Alabama
1990 Colorado
1990 Georgia Tech
I agree with this 100%

They relied on a field goal, huh?

Seriously, maybe try to avoid correcting people when they are 100% correct.
Travis Henry gained 40 yards on 3 runs right after the fumble. Travis Henry was an absolute fricking beast.

I'm confident da U woulda beaten them by 3 touchdowns.

Well....this is a fairly bold statement. Perhaps too bold?

With back-up Marcus Outzen as QB. Dude could barely complete a throw to the back in the flats. Had a pick-six in the 2nd quarter that gave UT a 14-0 lead and the game was all but over.
Again, I can't stress this enough. It isn't like Weinke got hurt on the first play of the fiesta bowl. Homeboy had been out since early November. So, regardless of what one's opinion is on Marcus Outzen, he was their starter either the last 3 or last 4 games. And he apparently was good enough to not frick up them getting there.

Anybody who has the '98 Vols in the bottom half of their list should punch themselves right square in the dick.

Washington and Miami had a common opponent that year, Nebraska. Nebraska voted Washington in the final coaches poll.

95 Nebraska
96 Florida
99 FSU
93 FSU
94 Nebraska
92 Alabama
98 Tennessee
97 Nebraska
91 Miami
90 GaTech
I think 95 Florida destroys half the list and is remembered as one of the GOAT teams in any universe but the one we live in, where they are instead remembered as an iconic joke.
98 Tennessee was talented enough to beat any team on any day but are easily the luckiest champ in modern history - last second FG, OT missed FG, Stoener fumble, UCLA losing a postponed game, Kansas State losing to Aggie in double OT on 3rd and 17 after holding a 15 point 4th quarter lead - ATM's first ever win over a #1 ranked opponent.

Washington was the better team in 1991. East coast bias and name recognition got Miami the AP vote

How does this make Tennessee lucky? I would have much rather played UCLA than FSU. Do you remember how bad the Bruin defense was? Tennessee would have won that game by 14+.

K-State vs UT would've been a great game. I hate that they choked vs Aggy. Going from futility U to championship game in a decade

Colorado beat Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and ND, they also tied SEC champion Tennessee. GT's only decent wins were Clemson, UVA and Nebraska

And everyone knows Colorado really lost to Missouri. That 5th down wasn’t a case of a call that was iffy like that pass interference between Miami and OSU in 2002. It was play that everyone knows 100% should not have happened.
But Colorado did also have not one but two really controversial wins against Stanford and Notre Dame in their bowl game.

Say what you will about Joepa, but no one was robbed of more national championships than him. He finished undefeated three times without winning a national title.
Four times, IIRC, but the 1968, 1969, and 1973 teams played some schedules that were bad with a capital B.
During the regular season, they played a combined two teams that finished ranked during those three years.

Meh, 1982 Penn State was completely undeserving: got whipped by mediocre Bama and beat Nebraska on one of the worse calls ever

I think weinke was 2nd string though and he won a game or 2 and then got injured. Then outzen came in for the last game (against Florida) in which FSU won with a dominant defensive performance at home. IIRC Mickey Andrews dropped like 8 into coverage all day against the fun n gun and really confused steve spurrier.

I'm actually surprised AP voters didn't take that into consideration in their final ballots. Colorado had gotten by on some questionable officiating all season long, while Georgia Tech had just gotten done throttling a decent Nebraska team in the Citrus Bowl. The crazy thing is that, while Georgia Tech finished the season as major college football's only undefeated team, they won the Coaches national championship by just ONE vote - even with all the controversy surrounding some of Colorado's victories. I feel as if social media had existed 30 years ago, the Yellow Jackets would have won both the AP and Coaches vote.
