I mean what are we calling regularity?

Against the Top 10 he is 8-6 over his career.

Against all of Top 25 he is 17-7. He is 61-9 overall.

His biggest problem is the Michigan losses which are about to disappear. If he somehow losses to Michigan this year yeah move on.

in this context, i define "regularity" as once/twice every year. like i said, go back the past 4 or 5 years. no one on the 12 game schedule (including UM and PSU) has the same talent as OSU, not even in the same ballpark

including a win vs top 25 games is kinda irrelevant. i mean, should we give OSU credit for beating an occasional #22 Iowa, or a Wisconsin that's ranked #19?

when they lose, it's either to UM or someone who has an equal amount of talent as OSU. again, i don't know if they should fire Day, nor do I care, but the fact remains that OSU fans expect to beat UM every year. they think it's their birthright. and when you lose that game, and/or lose an ADDITIONAL game to an evenly matched team talent wise, people get angry

that's the criticism. when you only play 1-2 teams each year that are in the same ballpark as you, and you lose those with regularity over 3-4 years, then people start getting restless

I hate defending Day, but as well as he’s recruited, he hasn’t recruited as well as Bama or Georgia. 2 teams he lost to. Lost to a really good Missouri team last year in the bowl, but Ohio State clearly was deflated by that Michigan loss and didn’t really want to be there and had opt outs, while it was one of the biggest games in Missouri history. Lost to a very talented Clemson team who had won 2 NCs recently and had the future # pick in the draft at QB.

None of those losses are “bad,” though they were probably all disappointing. Really, the only losses that hurt him are the Michigan ones. And I just think they have been bad matchups the last couple of years. Michigan is super physical and wins by having dominant OLs, a great running game, and a smart QB who doesn’t turn the ball over. While OSU hasn’t necessary been a “finesse” team, but a lot of those great recruiting classes have been filled with 5-star skill position guys at WR and DB. And Michigan has been the 1st team the past 2 years (maybe 3) that Ohio State has faced who play that kind of physical style with those level of athletes. And it’s always the last Saturday of November, which is much more advantageous to that style of physical football than one that relies so heavily on skill position players.

And I realize that Michigan’s recruiting class rankings haven’t been nearly as good as Ohio State’s, but 1) they focus more on the trenches, and 2) Harbaugh did a really great job of getting guys to buy-in to the “Michigan Way” and come back for their 4th or 5th seasons when most of them would have been gone after 3 at most any other school. How old was that NC team last year? Gotta be one of the oldest rosters to win a modern day NC. Or at least the oldest starting 22. A 22 or 23 year old former high 3/low 4 star OL is gonna have an advantage over a 5 star 19 or 20 year old DL. Especially if most of the OL are all that old and have been playing together for 3,4,5 years.

I think once Michigan finally won the NC and scratched that itch, and now with Harbaugh gone, you’re gonna see them quickly come back down to earth. Easier to sell kids to come be a part of something special and help Michigan win their 1st title since ‘97 (that was split with Nebraska) and 1st (relatively) unanimous title since 1948 and be immortalized forever than it will be to sell them on coming and winning the 2nd title in 3,4,5 years. They get diluted and aren’t as special as the 1st ones after a long gap. Guys kept going to Bama to get developed to go make NFL money. If they won an NC on the way, great. But it wasn’t the driving force on them being able to keep loading up on those classes.

You think this has real meaning in my life?

I don’t watch the NFL, NBA, or MLB, or college basketball unless it’s March. Sports is not my life.

The future of college football and its wins or losses will not affect my life like it does other people.

I’m too busy having fun living life, doing a remodel, and banging whores and contemplating my next moves.

This isn’t real life but I guess for some it is.

That post game interview with him where he asked where Lou Holtz was is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Dude was so pissed at a 90 year old guy.

He's never won the big one, but given he's been right there every season it seems premature to can him.

I think OSU fans wanting him gone have to look around the landscape and see who they really think would come in and be better.

I always hate this take. I'm not an AD or "search consultant". As a fan it's not our job to know who the right guy is, but it is our right to let them know when the current guy isn't cutting it.

You only have two titles in the last 50 years. Don’t act like it’s common for Ohio State to win titles.

Are Ohio State fans correct in wanting him gone?

obviously not, they are dumb as frick if they want him out at this point. he's as good an option as any right now. if they get a better game manager, he'd probably be worse at building the roster, and building the roster is flat out more important.

they might win the title this year and harbaugh is gone so the michigan thing is probably done with for a while.

with all that said, if he loses to michigan this year, id fire him on the field

Last year they scapegoated Kyle McCord. What's the excuse this year?

Let’s be honest, LSU has a more hateable coach and it’s not particularly close. This is pretty much universal across college football fans and media outlets. I actually like LSU and am disappointed he’s the coach of a generally fun and good natured fan base
