Recipients. They do no work, produce no products but siphon money off of colleges and universities while using the players as essentially a free labor source. They are corrupt and sell a mob like protection service and should be dismantled by the government under corruption and anti trust laws.

Incredibly naive and stupid statement.

Football teams at major universities absolutely bring in money for the school. They do not drain money from academics and are basically self funded and fund the entire athletic department.

No one is donating to watch kids go to gender studies class. Players get free tuition and room and board, so there is/was no free labor - even under the pre-NIL system. The kids had it pretty good before. Now they are wealthy.

At smaller schools the program may not be profitable, but it probably leads to more donations to the university overall and is a net positive.

Is there any governing body in sports that fans like, whether it's a league or international federation.

The schools own the teams so they're gonna have the power whether it's through the NCAA or conferences or some other structure. And if you own the product, you're not a leech. Governing bodies, whether for-profit or non-profit are vehicles that represent the collective ownership.
