Bird would also do just off-the-wall shite to psych himself up for games.
Asking the clubhouse boy to find out what the arena scoring record was.
Deciding to shoot only left-handed.
Telling his defender exactly what he was going to do to him, and doing it.

quote:Larry isn’t close to Lebron. Larry had about a 7-year run being an NBA first-team-level player. Lebron has doubled that.
LeBron to Larry has always been a more apt comparison than LeBron to Jordan
Lebron-Jordan is more apropos because only Jordan is almost as good as Lebron.

Bird wasn’t a ball handler like either but he is an all-timer.

Cold-blooded with the game on the line.

Druant (more length) to Bird.
No. Lebrun and larry way better comparison. Durant is arguably most talented skill/size comvination ever. Way better shooter than lebron and his extraordinary length close to makes up the athleticism.
Lebron and larry have an awareness and savvy that durant cant touch.

Bob McAdoo/Durant is a pretty good comparison, IMO.

Larry was a bad man. Too bad injuries cut his career short.
Bird only played 6 games in the 88-89 season due him having to get bone spurs removed from booth of his heels. When he returned from that, he started having back issues that force him to retire.
But looking at Bird's peak prior to that 88-89 season and conparing it to LeBron's at the same age, and it shows just how great Bird was
Bird's 4 year peak was from 1984/85 to 1987/88, when he was 28 to 31 years old.
Comparing Bird and LeBron from age 28 to 31:
..............PTS...REB...AST...STL...BLK...FG%....3P%....FT%...USG%...WS....VORP
Bird........28.1....9.7.....6.8.....1.8.....0.9.....51.7.....41.4....90.1.....28.4.....61.7.....33.7
James....26.1....7.1.....6.9.....1.6.....0.6.....53.6.....36.4....73.7.....31.2.....59.2.....31.3
Here is each's playoff stats during that same time period:
..............PTS...REB...AST...STL...BLK...FG%....3P%....FT%
Bird........26.0....9.4.....7.0.....1.7.....0.8.....47.5.....36.4....90.6
James....27.3....9.0.....6.9.....1.9.....0.9.....49.0.....33.2....74.9
Bird played 3,363 playoff minutes while Lebron played 3,389 minutes
As I said, Bird was a bad man

Bird was great but Magic was better once he got that three going... And I LOVE Larry Bird..............

Actually surprised that he shot under 50% for his career. So my reaction is the exact opposite of what you tried to draw attention to

Won the MVP three straight years (84-86) during an extremely talented time for the NBA. Incredible.
