Why are they having camp in Troy, Alabama? Or are you talking about Troy the sun belt school?

Plenty of SEC fans would always say Carroll was no good.

He's a really good game day coach and solid recruiter. It's not hard to recruit at SC though, no matter the circumstances. I'm looking forward to seeing what type of success he can have at SC.

Yet no one can give examples of him being a good gameday coach...hmm

Maybe I should have worded it differently. He's a really good play caller. Good game day coach can mean many things.

You probably won't know the name yet, but keep an eye out for WR Marquise Lee. The improvement of both RB Dillon Baxter and RB "Moody" McNeal have been very impressive thus far. The WR corps is very talented. Woods, Carswell, Farmer, and now Lee stepping up, dayum. If Ambles ever gets his poop in one sock, it will be a force to be reckoned with. It's pretty impressive given that kid's checkered past that Kiffin hasn't excised him from the fold. It almost makes you think LK has a heart.

The OL was the biggest question going into camp, and it's gelling like Magellan thanks to a bigger better Kevin Graf, G turned C Khaled Holmes and Aundrey Walker.

the reports at indiana and vandy are also positive, fwiw
FWIW, the reports out of camp prior to last season were anything BUT positive. It was grim, and the look on Kiffin's face pretty much told you he thought it was going to be a shitty season. It was.

I'm hoping the positive outlook, in contrast from last fall camp, will be the precursor to a great season for SC.

I think the Trojans will win 10 this year, including at Notre Dame.

Kiffin's one of those guys that won't get credit for being a good coach in many people's eyes because:

1. How it ended at Tennessee
2. He has a loud mouth (which I love)
3. He coaches at SC.

True.

But even USC homers believe like most that he has to prove himself to justify the contract $. It's always been based on promise with him and recruiting. Lets see results.

It's hard to properly evaluate how good a coach he really is...sure he had great success as the OC while at USC after he supplanted Chow but lets be honest: he was given the keys to a Ferrari.

That's fair. He really hasn't proven anything beyond nepotism and being a part of Leinart and Co.'s gravy train.

Then you don't buy into recruiting rankings in general.

It is fair, I agree. I'm on record as saying this is his do or die year at SC. Based on my assessment of the current data, I believe he will have success this season. "Success" benchmark for me (this season) falls within the 9-12 win range.

TBH, I never liked him as OC when I think he worked behind the scenes to nudge out Chow.

This "Wunderkind" and his pop better not lose 4-5 games. If the defense doesn't improve significantly, Kiffen needs to drop the old NFL pro as D-coordinator experiment. I can understand his inability to stop Oregon - but if anyone should be able to stop semi-pro Luck - it's supposed to be this guy.

Even 9 wins is a stretch for this team.

If you're talking about as a head coach then he hasn't exactly had a huge sample size.
