I mean, it's run in a lot of different ways. Not every single QB has the same cadence, step back speed, throwing speed, and tons of different variables.

Hell, the Patriots (whom you keep referring to) have various "quick slant" plays that come off of weird fake screens and fullback playactions.

I mean, 78.8% of all pass plays were run from the shotgun last year......

Throwing from under center is not really a thing anymore. That isnt material on whether or not Murray will make it

Brady only threw 11.9% of passes from under center

Also, after reading this shite show of a thread, people apparently don't understand a) how long it takes to get to the MLB pros, and B) how long it takes to get paid big bucks.

I remember hearing of a few guys in the past that played minor league baseball out of high school then eventually went to school and played college football.

Well yeah, we've had several players do that (play pro baseball, retire from baseball, then play college football). I just was unsure about how that worked with players currently signed to a pro contract in one sport and still actively playing college ball in another sport.

A quick slant is a quick slant. You only have so much of a time window to make that throw, and you can't spend that time dropping back. You can fake a handoff inside and that's about it. That's what Bama killed us with all night.

And as I've said, dropping back from under center is outdated and pointless. It's an entirely stupid metric.

I just finished this thread and realized that was the point he was making. Obviously it's not ideal when your QB cannot play under center, as it just doesn't let you be as flexible, but I don't think it's a deal breaker.

Now you're going to far in the other direction. Dropping back does allow for different run formations.

He simply needs to learn to handoff from under center, thats the point. Its completely irrelevant in the modern NFL

The NFL averages 78% of its passes from under shotgun

Pats-72%
NO-73%
Rams-63%
Chiefs-90%

I would rather be known as one of the many teams to guess wrong by passing on Murry and drafting a stud CB,OL or DL than to just hope I am guessing right and drafting a undersized QB.

Yeah I don't think your numbers are correct. Per your own website, Pats threw 389 times in shotgun, and 166 times under center.

If you include the no huddles, it goes to 429 and 177, still nowhere near 90%.

So thats 78% for the NFL was correct

It was off on individual teams I picked because I forgot to toggle

Pats-72%
NO-73%
Rams-63%
Chiefs-90%

The pass from under center is now used to keep defenses honest, it isnt the staple of the nfl offense anymore. This will not be what makes or breaks a qb going forward

Unless someone is doing something crazy, you can't run I or offset I out of pure shotgun. You can do some funky things with pistol, so maybe that's the compromise?

You can line up a FB/H-Back on one side and a RB on the other out of the shotgun. It's the same thing. We do it all the time.

Baseball is just much harder to make it all the way to the top in. Even a kid that talented may not make the MLB. He will make a bunch of money even by ducking for 4 years a la Andre Ware in the NFL.

Now, if you make the majors, you can probably make $10mil a year guaranteed for 10+ years.

I just have a hard time seeing him as a first round pick. The guy had one season of college experience, played on an offense with superior athletes than most teams, and relied on his legs far more than people want to admit. I understand he's a great athlete, but 1st round quarterbacks are guys you expect to have for 10 years.

When the pocket is collapsing around him will he be able to see open receivers? When 300 pound defensive linemen are landing on top of him multiple times a game will he hold up?

Oh yea and he played in the Big 12, which is completely devoid of real defenses.

I think it would be a complete reach to take him in the first round but some idiot GM will just like they did with Manziel because he could make great plays in college.

NFL will eat Murray up and spit him out.

Should have played baseball,if he was good he'd make a $100 million over his career.
