Yeah, it's crazy that the players can't make money off of their likeness or autographs, but you can totally be a professional in another sport while maintaining amateur status for football. I'll never understand the decisions that the NCAA makes.

The slot value was $4.7mm and OP says he will be paid "close to" $5mm. They probably paid him the allocated value.

That said, your point is still true. Although I'm sure their financial position is insured.
