After sleeping on it, my feelings didn't change. I stated in this thread in about round 4 or five that they were going setting it up to give to Ward. Max kept talking about how strong Ward looked and the "much more effective shots" he was landing. I kept thinking, "what fricking fight is Max watching?" They were building the guy up just because he didn't get knocked the frick out like they though was going to happen after the first two rounds. You don't get extra credit for not being put to sleep.

Kovalev controlled the pace.

Kovalev was much more aggressive.

Kovalev's puches were much more effective.

Ward's face is the one that looked like he'd been in a boxing match after the fight.

Plus the fact that Kovalev had a 10-8 round and Ward STILL had a unan decision is what pisses me off. A draw, no but maybe. A split? Not in the fight I watched but stranger shite has happened.

A unan Ward win? That was a fricking fraud pure and simple.

Very close fight imo, had kovalev winning but im not terribly upset that they have it to ward.

Perfect set up for rematch to which ward may or may not take.

Kovalev will knock him out imobif they fight again

I had Kovalev by a slim margin but I don't get the outrage over the decision. I think people watching may have been influenced by the Lederman card and Lampley's commentary into believing the fight was more toward Kovalev than it actually was. The judges' scores for this fight certainly don't merit cries of a fix. It's also important to remember that in boxing the scores are confined to round-by-round frames. So if one fighter is dominating the rounds he wins but not scoring knockdowns and the other fighter is barely eeking out the rounds he wins, the rounds count the same. So the question is centered around who won the close rounds because Ward squeaking out those either/or rounds is worth just as much as Kovalev pummeling him in those early rounds. In the end, I saw it for Kovalev but recognized it could go either way.

If you're looking for a reason to cry fix, look no further than the Hooker-Perez fight. That was an abomination. Perez was robbed.

So how does a champion lose 114-113 after knocking his opponent down?

Sorry but I just don't see that happening that's not the norm.

I haven't seen the fight but it sounds as if this was the wrong decision.

Oh well more ppv buys for the rematch that's all that matters

Turn it off before the decision because had to go to a show and Kovalev had won it.

When I got there and looked at my phone my jaw dropped.

It's not super unusual for a fighter to come back from an early knockdown.

How could you form such an opinion without having seen the fight? It was a really close fight. Again, I saw it for Kovalev but a 1-pt win for Ward isn't outrageous by any means. And the fact that it was unanimous is misleading. Every judge saw it by 1 point. It's not like they copied each other's papers.

Don't know if outrageous is the word I would use but it was a bad decision. We've seen much worse but this was a robbery. The knockdown should've put it out of Ward's reach, at worst it should've been 114-113 Kovalev. You take the knockdown out, it could've been called for Ward with no controversy.

Still a very good fight, not a great one. Really it was a win/win. Kovalev still looks every bit as good as he did before, and Ward has his "0" intact, albeit fraudulently but he didn't get destroyed either. Ward should pursue a GGG fight though. He made a mistake by going up in weight for this fight.

Ward won all of the last six rounds on two scorecards, and five of six on a third. He won the final round on two of the scorecards.

This is what is difficult for me to fathom when Kovalev landed more power shots according to compubox in several of the later rounds. It's not robbery, it's just shitty judging with a tinge of corruption.
