imo, if your divorcing the mother of your children after years as a couple, the wife should get a substantial amount.

If you're an athlete that's worried about marketing ploys or deals then yes but I wouldn't. I personally would be happy with my many millions and would rather keep as low of a profile as possible.
I know I'd mess around with a lot of women and would rather be known as a single guy being a playboy than a cheating husband.
