He just disappeared at some point and just stopped coming to team activities. There were comments by the players that indicated some knowledge of the issue but the AZ execs were totally clueless.

Prior to Monday’s game, multiple reports indicated that Marte made the trip to Boston with the rest of the team. But when it came time to report to the stadium, the standout second baseman was nowhere to be found. The Diamondbacks placed him on the restricted list before first pitch, removing him from the lineup, which was released just 10 minutes before the game.
After the game, which Arizona lost 11–1, manager Torey Lovullo spoke to reporters and offered some details about the nature of Marte’s absence, though he didn’t have much information at the time.

Lovullo also acknowledged that nobody was even sure if Marte was still in Boston, or if he'd left to return to Phoenix or elsewhere. His agent then issued a statement on Wednesday saying that the 32-year-old is dealing with a "personal matter" and has a knee injury that requires an MRI.
"[Marte] is currently managing a personal matter and will be undergoing an MRI on his knee tomorrow. Ketel appreciates the unwavering support from fans, teammates, the Diamondbacks organization, and Torey Lovullo during this time. He remains optimistic about his recovery and looks forward to returning to the field to contribute to the team as soon as possible," the statement said.
On Thursday, the story turned even more bizarre, as team executives admitted they still have no idea what's going on or why Marte never showed up to the stadium. In a new interview with "Bickley & Marotta" on 98.7 in Phoenix, team president and CEO Derrick Hall admitted that it's a "mystery" what happened with Marte.

There’s no better way to deal with “personal issues” than blackjack and hookers. No foul.

Let’s see if he gets away with it with zero consequences. I’ll bet he does. His agent is actively covering Marte’s tracks with the knee MRI thing.

I don’t want to make excuses for the guy, but his mother dying really messed him up. I don’t remember him ever being a problem until that incident with a fan a few years ago involving the death of his mother.

He had those knees extended pretty good, I hope it didn't mess with his knee injury

They rocked our arse 9-0 last night, so apparently they aren't hurting too bad without him
Reds up 3-0 currently though
