"Everyone besides Portland, I guess" - LeBron

Press Conference today

, Portland missed on KD and Jordan. That's incredible.

Poor Portland.

I mean, they did draft a 60 year old player, so I'm not sure what they were expecting.

There were legitimate questions about his ability to create separation coming out of Texas.

People are quick to forget that, glass knees notwithstanding, Greg Oden looked set to be the next dominant big man.

Didn't they already have Clyde the Glide in 84?

Oden was all hype. Even if he was 100% healthy his entire career, he would be lucky to be as good as Clint Capela is now. Similar skillset

He had a MONSTER game against us in the title game (remember, this was the team with Noah/Horford/Brewer/Green returning and having 2-3 years on him).

Guess hindsight is 20/20 but one of Oden's legs is shorter than the other. That may have been enough to scare me away from him right there.

Yeah, Portland's picks were reasonable in both drafts. However, the hindsight of Bowie over Jordan and Oden over Durant is incredible.

ETA - The fact that Bowie had an injury history in college makes it even worse.

Or that he already looked like he was 40 years old.

Isn't it so much easier to evaluate talent with the benefit of hindsight?

Best pic whenever Oden is brought up

KD is an all time elite scorer that's it. He's not the caliber of player that takes you to championships though

Too bad LeBron didn't use that to shite on Cowherd for his pre draft take on Durant

quote:

It’s over. No other argument. Any talk show host. Any emailer, any caller that goes on and says that Durant should be number one, isn’t doing their homework or is trying to incite calls and be controversial. Greg Oden is the number one pick. It’s all over. Thanks for flying United. It’s all over. Plane has landed. Grab your luggage. Orderly walk out of the plane thank you, thanks for flying. So long. It’s all over. There is no other, he’s number one.

Players were rated on how many times they could bench press 185 pounds. That is important. Even though it’s not as important as the NFL, the reality is that the NBA season is long, your durability and your core strength is really important. Only one player in the pre-draft camp was unable to bench even 185 pounds. Kevin Durant. Come on. That is embarrassing. I’m a talk show host and I bench over 185. That is brutal!

Can’t bench 185 pounds. One guy couldn’t bench a buck 85. One! Kevin Durant. ‘Well it doesn’t matter.’ Yes it does. This is a physical league. It’s a long, long, eight month season.

I mean I think Mike Dunleavy, Jr. is an incredibly talented basketball player. But you know, he was thin. He gets pushed around. Strength matters. Strength matters in everything. It matters in golf, it matters in lacrosse, it always matters.

Listen, I’m not a big fan of centers, drafting Centers, because like 70–80 percent are flops. But you are telling me that I can draft just another wing guy. Just another guy who, you know, he’s got Antonio McDyess written all over him. He’ll be a good player, but he’s just another wing guy.

He’s a wing guy who can’t bench press a buck 85. Danica Patrick can bench press a buck 85. So can Dan Patrick. Patrick Swayze. 185!…That’s embarrassing. Can’t bench press 185? Kevin, is your girlfriend playing? Sheesh.

I remember at the combine he couldn't bench 185 one time. They said he would never be physical enough for the NBA. The NBA was changing though into a small man's league. Now you have guys like Draymond at the 5

Durant would not have worked in the 80's and 90's.

Defensively yes, offensively he had a jump hook and could dunk. This was not Embiid coming out of college. His nba comp was a modern day Bill Russell, not Hakeem/Tim Duncan.

That's a solid line at least.
