Justin Fields: NFL Game Speed Actually Felt Kind of Slow To Me, Thought It Would Be Faster

Getting the ball with 40 seconds remaining in the first half, Fields took what the defense gave him, didn't panic, and drove the Bears into field goal range. The drive included the Bears' first first down of the entire half.

The confidence oozed from the rookie QB thereafter as he took command of the offense and torched Dolphins backup defenders with both his arm and legs, leading to 17 straight points to take the lead.

"It was actually kind of slow to me, to be honest," Fields told reporters following the game. "I think I was expecting it to be a little bit faster but practicing game speed, going at it with my teammates every day, of course, you know, we have a great defense so, me going against them every day, it definitely slowed the game up a little bit for me. So, I felt comfortable out there. Of course, I have room to grow, so I'm just gonna try to get better each and every day."

Oh boy. Why say this? This will immediately resurface the first bad game he has.

Next game he'll throw for less than 50% and have 2-3+ picks for sure. Those quotes never backfire.

I think he was saying that to credit how well they practice.

Probably so. He could have also said it in a way that doesn’t make him look like a cocky rookie who thinks the NFL is a layup.

Yeah, playing against guys who are trying to make the team is not the same as dealing with the likes of Aaron Donald or TJ Watt.

Leonard Fournette said this too after his first preseason game, and now he’s signing one year deals for $2 million

And he just played a big part In the Buccaneers winning the super bowl. He also played for the Jags who sucked arse. Oh yeah he has over 1,000 yards in 2 of his 4 seasons. So what’s your point again?

Not exactly something you should say after your first game, which was just a preseason game

My point was that saying that pretty much came back to bite him in the arse. How in the world was that not clear?

I think he's gonna be really disappointed to see an actual starting defense in a few weeks.

I don’t see any problem with what he said. He’s saying that the defense he sees in practice is damn good and feels like it’s preparing him for the league. I also think his statement is accurate based on the competition he faced yesterday. Will the game speed up when week 1 comes absolutely, but for now, he’s doing exactly what he’s supposed to be doing against 2s and 3s

Lol nice subtle brag. In a preseason game nonetheless. Wait till you're seeing ghosts in a real NFL game.
