Yeah, and we decided to blow up the entire sport over a one-off fluke. How's that working out for us, eh?
It wasn’t a one-off fluke that a deserving team got fricked over in the BCS system. But nobody asked for a 12 team playoff except ESPN

The NCAA being retarded with the calendar is ruining things even worse though. They need to get rid of early signing day and go back to February only. And transfer portal window after spring ball. Then you don’t have such urgency for CFP bound coaches and players to make decisions on transfer portal or taking new jobs while their teams are still playing for a shot at a title.

ESPN ruined college football.

We had the same problem under the 4 team playoff.

I take it you weren't following football before the BCS when the Associated Press would just pick a national champion?
if asked to choose I would go back to that in an instant

cotton bowl
rose bowl
sugar bowl
orange bowl

traditional conference tie ins, all on New Year’s Day, rank the 4 winners.

You and I both know that's not what we're talking about. It was a one-off fluke that the SEC West's runner-up got selected as BCS #2 at the end of the 2011 regular season. Some wild and wacky shite had to happen in order for that to become a reality. Oklahoma State lost to an unranked Iowa State football team and Oregon lost to USC.

We have not seen anything yet.

Remember the B1G wants a 24 to 28 team playoff.

Disney/ESPN will orgasm.

Ohio State went in 2016 over a team that won their division and beat us head to head.

That's accounting for conference play in games to replace conference title games, which is actually much better than what CCGs are now.

Transfers weren’t as big of an issue until the last 4 years though because they had a portal, but still had the old rules about most transfer players having to sit out a year. It wasn’t until 2021 when everyone could transfer once with immediate eligibility and then 2024 when unlimited transfers became allowed.

And the coaching carousel with a 4 team playoff never involved a head coach of a playoff team leaving for another job. This year we may have 2 playoff teams with interim coaches (Ole Miss and Tulane). Possibly even a 3rd if JMU gets help from Dukd and makes the playoff. It was always just coordinators accepting new HC jobs elsewhere.

2003 USC
2004 Auburn
mid-late 2000’s Boise and TCU teams that went undefeated. TCU went undefeated in the regular season back to back years and got left out

2011 is the one that’s more personal to us, but there’s more examples of the 2 team BCS system screwing over some deserving teams

Who?

ETA: don’t say Deboer, because Saban retiring and Deboer taking the job happened after the title game

Can’t tell if you’re serious with this statement. Players were absolutely getting paid back then. Amateurs? Hardly. Now that all schools can pay players, the playing field has been leveled tremendously.

Fickell left for Wisconsin, not ND. And Cincy made the CFP in 2021, but Fickell didn’t leave until after the 2022 regular season.

Brian Kelly left ND in 2021 to take the LSU job while ND was still technically alive in the CFP hunt, but needed a couple of upsets in conference title games.

Under the table, with hundred dollar handshakes, and no paper trail to speak of (SMU excluded). If you think the illicit payments being given to players back then are anything like the salaries they are getting now then there is just no arguing with you. NIL is now penetrating the high school ranks. There is a 14-year-old playing football in D.C. who is closing in on being a millionaire.
