With some help from Brad Seigel who was best buds with Stu Snyder (WWF COO at the time).

LINK /

WWF's end of fiscal 2001 report (released 7/28) notes that all of the intellectual properties and assets of WCW including the trade name, tape library and other intangible assets were sold by AOL- Time Warner for a staggeringly low $2.5 million.

This is despite an offer from Bischoff/Fusient Media Group for $48.3 million, just days prior to the sale to WWF.

The Fusient offer included a $5 million deposit - so, even if the deal had collapsed, TBS would have picked up double what they've now got from Vince. Moreover, Fusient had agreed to take over every contract - relieving AOL-Time Warner of more than $15 million in salary payouts.

Instead, as thing now stand, Time Warner will be paying Goldberg more in one year than all the money they got from the sale of WCW.

WWE had a weird fiscal period at the time, it was May-April instead of Oct-Sep like most businesses.

A lot of people point to that, but the pendulum had already started to swing back before that Nitro. I would say it was Nitro 100 when Luger beat Hogan for the title. WCW was white hot and absolutely destroying WWF in ratings at the time.

Your post made me want to look at the Monday Night Wars ratings. It seems like the shift really started trending downward in early 1999.

WCW actually made more money than the WWF did in 98. That seems to surprise a lot of people.
Not a surprise ratings tanked after the Fingerpoke of Doom and David Flair.

Also that giant spike for Raw was the May 10, 1999 episode that was unopposed because of the NBA playoffs. The entire two hours (not just a single segment) did an 8.1
The Mean Street Posse vs Patterson and Brisco did an 8.6 I think it's still the highest rated non overrun match in the history of wrestling on cable TV.

I was a first-year middle school teacher in 98. At the end of the year I signed a kid's yearbook "I just taught your A$$"

97-98 were the peak of WCW. By 99, the repetitive storylines, got, well, repetitive.
I agree with others, they have Hogan too much control. The NWO storyline got old and WCW failed to reinvent.

Probably should blame the people who gave him creative control in the first place.

Just finished the first episode.

Nothing new to the average wrestling fan.

Catch 22 though. If giving Hogan full creative control was what it took to get him to come to WCW then it was worth it.
