You then later said "Modern history" has "proven" ND isn't "good enough.
A simple look at their BCS/4 Team/12 Team playoff record since 2000 proves this. Most of the losses have been one sided blowouts. Brian Kelly left there and flat out said "I can't win a national championship at ND"
In case you have forgotten ND hasn't won a National Championship since 1988 which is 38 seasons ago.....

Yep, has nothing to do with 2026. Thanks.

ND is a relic of a program. Its not 1977 anymore and even with extremely favorable treatment you still haven't been able to win a national championship in 38 years. I'd be embarrassed and lashing out too if that were my school.

Again, thank you for your thoughts, has nothing to do with 2026.
Only one SEC program has an active coach who has won a national championship. Only one SEC program (barely…) has any players who won a national championship. ND beat that program by 13 with an active head coach and many of the same 2026 players.
Joe Burrow doesn’t have eligibility. Devonta Smith doesn’t have eligibility. Nick Saban is retired.
So thank you, again, for the irrelevant information.

ND hasn't won a national championship in 38 years. Do you want me to list all the SEC programs that have done so in that time frame? Several multiple times including one that was against ND and the game was over at halftime.

You probably think the Giants have a better chance at winning the Super Bowl this year than the Bills. Giants have won 2 this century. Bills have never won one ever...

You’d have a point if there wasn’t a curse on the Bills

Haha, true. Wouldn't mind for Bills mafia if they could find a way to finally break it.

What was Indiana then? Times have changed…

How many coaches have left Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, or Tennessee (all programs with more recent national championships than ND) because they "couldn't win a national championship there"
It is over for ND. Its not 1977 or even 1988 anymore. Those days are gone.

Even Indiana has passed ND . You are making my point for me.

So you might not be aware, but apparently, how recently you win a national championship (or even if you've never won one before at all...) has no impact on if you can win one in the current season.

Brian Kelly's a moron and such a bad coach that he failed at LSU (unlike Mensa members Miles and Orgeron), and even he was able to have some good seasons at ND (though his teams were nowhere near capable of competing against the elite).
Regardless, it's a different era. Not only is he not as good as Freeman, but he left ND right as the NIL/portal era was gaining full steam.

This is pointless and illogical. I mean, the coaches poll has them preseason #5. Phil Steele has them preseason #1. Obviously, people think they can win. They've shown that they can make the Playoffs and navigate through a few games and at least make it as a runner up.

Indiana, currently, has surpassed everyone. Alabama included by a 5 TD margin.
By your logic, it's over for Bama. Bear's gone. Saban's not coming back.

It's crazy that if he just had a serviceable defensive coordinator and defense - instead of the 108th defense - we would have likely won it all in 2023.

Honestly, combine the 2023 O with 2025 D and you guys would’ve won it haha.
That was kinda his mantra at ND too. The 2012 O sucked (by top-5/10 standards) but the D was great. The 2015 O was great but the D was awful. He was never able to get everything firing on all cylinders at the same time.
Also, related to both the above and this thread’s discussion / ND, having Mike Denbrock as OC the past couple of years (and continuing to have him) has been beneficial.

What does this even mean? Preseason? Its meaningless.

Its been 38 years since Bama has won a National Championship?
See how ridiculous your premise is?

But we will never know because ND is too shicken chit to join any conference much less the SEC.
