Dude no one in this entire thread is contending that the Ray rice scenario isn't fricked up.
I feel the same way as you do but Ray Rice literally has nothing to do with Josh Gordon.

What a stupid punishment for such a stupid policy violation.
Josh was increadibly stupid for breaking the substance abuse policy, but the NFL is even more ludicrous in banning him for an entire year after only suspending Ray Rice for what? 2 games?! He actually committed a violent crime! What message is the NFL trying to send?
Violence on the football field is not tolerated!
Drug use is a crime punishable by death!
Violence off the football field is meh.

Gordon in Canada? Probably not, but maybe. Just maybe. My FF reach pick...

Texting with a CFL GM who tells me if Josh Gordon is under contract & suspended, rules don’t allow him to play in CFL. Only if he’s cut.

Gordon's rationale for wanting to play in Canada might be simply playing football, but Chris Burke of Sports Illustrated mentioned that all the problems the 23-year-old has had off the field makes a one-year suspension without the game dangerous:

well no shite
Everyone blames Cleveland's organization and say it's irrelevant if he can't have contact with them. So far from the truth.
If you look at his suspensions/failed drug tests, one came in the offseason after his rookie year when he wasn't with the team.
Then this past offseason, he gets popped with his second failed test. Then after OTAs, he gets a DUI on his own.
None of his frick ups happened during the season or at the Browns' facility. He needs structure. That's why I keep saying if he's on his own for a year, he'll be the next Justin Blackmon and keep screwing up.
If the NFL really wanted him to get help, they would have ordered a mandatory stint in a rehab facility.

And his arse should be in Berea every day from now until he get reinstated, but the NFL sucks.

Ya, I can't imagine we treat addicts with doses and doses of free time with nothing to do
Sounds like a recipe for disaster

That's why the collective bargaining angle is so important.
Goodell suspends Rice for a year and Rice could get an injunction, possibly with the full support of the Ravens.
With Gordon, Goodell is fully protected in following the book. The only real option is an all or nothing approach: either collectively bargain the punishments for all (or most) penalties or work to exclude recreational drugs in the next CBA.
This should be common sense.

Do you know if the NFL can actually do this? Or, are you just blaming the NFL for something that they have no power to do, and excusing the player for choosing not to take care of the issue himself.
