It happens to all of us, plus I used the French spelling for it as well which can be confusing.

I will make this quick. RBI's are overrated (independent of solo home runs) because they depend on your teammates being on-base, hopefully in scoring position, and get across the plate. For example, a double with no on-base gives you a slugging percentage of 2.000 for that at-bat, while a single with a runner on third (or possibly second) gives you a slugging percentage of 1.000, but you also get an RBI.

Top offensive sabermetric statistics (to my knowledge):
1. On-base percentage (about three more important than slugging, according to Moneyball)
2. Slugging percentage

not saying that you are wrong but did you ever play baseball?

if you did was it harder to get a hit with nobody on or a man on second? in which situation do you think you are going to get the pitcher best pitches? In a way RBIs show how clutch a hitter is but like every stat there are outliers.

I would recommend reading Moneyball by Michael Lewis. Good, fun read and that explains some of the inefficiencies of baseball through Billy Beane's A's. Trust me, I did not come these conclusions on my own, but they seem to make sense.

ETA: FWIW, I was fricking clutch when I played baseball regardless of the situation.

I have read the book but a guy like Bautista is getting paid to drive runs in so for you to say it is overrated in his case is wrong...

have you ever head the saying nobody walks off the island?

I never said Bautista was overrated or on steroids or anything. In fact, if you look on the first page I said over. RBI's are not a "bad" stat where it means nothing, but I was just saying it is not the most effective measure of offensive production. I thought Bautista was very effective last year and whatever his job as a hitter is, he did a damn good of exceeding all expectations.
