Brother Martin and Jesuit are both very good high school teams. Well coached, and very tough. Not mediocre.
And lest anyone be confused I am not a Jesuit or BM guy.
Some of you have the idea that unless your team is playing in the Dome regularly, they suck.
It's ridiculous.

I never said they sucked, they both looked pretty mediocre Friday night. Did you see the game?
BM has a 5 start receiver who was very underutilized, until they started using him as a running back…
Both teams QBs were missing guys wide open, and their defenses were missing tackles.

Do you watch much football?
You see that in football at all levels.
This is high school football.
Is Nussmeir mediocre because he threw one of the worst interceptions any of us will see all year last Friday? Or Rummel mediocre because they went to the final seconds against UHigh?
It just struck me as ridiculous you would describe either Brother Martin or Jesuit as mediocre.
It would be fair to say both will finish in the bottom half of their district but that's not the same as saying they are mediocre. The top 4 teams in the district are among the top select teams in the state.
And if Rummel doesn't show up and play very well, either BM or Jesuit will beat them. They are both significantly better than U High.

But for a lot of people the Catholic League is all they’ll watch. Most of us aren’t going to watch the JP district that gives BM and Jesuit and HC teams to be ahead of in state rankings…

They were bracketing Royal in coverage and they still threw to him. They handed it to him more than once as a WR, before inserting him at RB when the starter went down. It may be the most utilized I've seen him since he got there.
Both QBs had some bad passes, but the receivers also dropped balls.
I didn't see all of the missed tackles you saw. Seemed like high school tackling.
All that said...Aug, Karr, Curtis, and Rummel are the strength of the league. I think most would say Aug is the clear favorite but Curtis played them tough. I think BM and Jesuit will play some tough games against the top 4, maybe even sneak a win or 2 against them. I like what Chalmette is doing but they're just small and not deep. The Catholic League is a grinder. It makes teams look weaker than they are at times, especially when you include the familiarity.
ETA: Not to totally overlook HC and Warren Easton, either. HC will probably play some of the top 4 tough and Warren Easton may have a surprise win at some point. The league is just really tough.

Warren Easton is in the JP district now and should win it despite being on an 11 game losing streak. Bonnabel and Riverdale fell off and John Ehret might overtake them

He dropped 2 dimes for touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Not underutilized.

Is that a good thing? I think the other Catholic League teams have and play freshmen. They need to see it and feel it early if they're going to be alphas later in high school. Playing 9th grade and JV ball is just not the same. I can only really speak for BM, but we put kids out there way early. Pretty sure Steltz's kid is getting varsity reps at Rummel as a freshman, too. It does result in some pretty bad sequences but the end result is experienced and conditioned teams year over year...even if some call it mediocre.
