For many years, John Churchill Chase was a noted political cartoonist in New Orleans, first working with the New Orleans Item and then after a merger the city's afternoon paper, The States-Item.
His style and cartoons were legendary, and some still seem appropriate today, such as these two:
But he also did a lot of covers for college and pro football game programs:
One thing some people might not know is that he also designed a lot of local sports team logos in his lifetime, some of which are still used, some of which have gone by the wayside.
These include this old De La Salle Cavaliers logo:
This Rummel Raiders logo, still in use:
The old "classic" UNO Privateers logo:
The old ABA New Orleans Buccaneers logo:
And though there is some question about it being his design, some sources say he designed this Jesuit Blue Jays logo which is still in use:

Thanks. I had heard or read somewhere online that Chase did it, but I was not sure that was correct. Thus the disclaimer in the post.
The others he definitely did.

I’m envious of these artists, it’s amazing to me how they are able to put on paper what’s in their minds so well. It’s a God given talent.
