Joe Maddon is all but gone.

Here are the Bovada odds. I have long heard David Ross is in line to take the job.

quote:

Odds to be the @Cubs manager for the first game of the 2020 MLB regular season (Bovada):

Mark Loretta +140
Joe Maddon +225
David Ross +450
Joe Girardi +550
Mark Derosa +750
John Farrell +1500
Sandy Alomar Jr +1500

Would also add recently retired players like Carlos Beltran and Raul Ibanez. Moises Alou is another name I’ve seen mentioned

I think you need to hire the opposite of Maddon. His players got way too relaxed as of late. Last year’s collapse and this year’s collapse had something to do with the fact that this team played like it didn’t care at times.

If it’s not Ross, I’ll be shocked. I listen to a ton of Chicago sports radio and they have been saying it’s been the worst kept secret for a month.

Was watching MLB Network the other day and Alou’s name was one I heard as a good possibility. I think it was Ken Rosenthal who mentioned it.

I mean... do the Cubs really need to ever win another World Series? That one kind of took care of them for a while.

Cubs haven't done shite in 100 years and they're gonna fire the manager that finally got them a world series title just a couple years ago.

His style worked great with those 2015/2016 teams. He was able to keep them grounded when they were dealing with extreme outside hype and also the 108 years of hopes and dreams of an entire fanbase that believed it really was happening.

While I agree, I just think it gets old.

His contract is up, he’s not getting fired. There are concerns that his message has gotten stale & he’s mailed it in after the WS

I agree his message is stale.

I really don’t think he’s “mailed it in”. He just can’t help himself with tinkering with the lineup too many times to where any consistency is rare and it pisses off the players.

I don’t need to go into his pitching management as we all know how horrid that has been. Especially this year. So many games he pulls a starter that’s dealing through 5 with the lead after they give up a walk and the bull pen goes full cubs bull pen.

Mailed it in in the sense that you win & you just kind of lose that attention to detail. You’re playing with house money, so nothing is ever that serious. That’s how it has come off to me, and I have a joe Maddon shirsey. I love the guy

I'm not sure the solution to this is to hire one of their buddies/former teammates in David Ross.

Should be Girardi.
